Harvey’s had his summer haircut and he looks absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way — soft, neat, and about three inches smaller. There’s something about his little face after a trim that just gets me every time. He’s pottering around like he knows he’s cute, and honestly… he’s not wrong.

🩶🐾 The Wonderful World of Weimaraners

Weimaraners are one of those breeds you can spot instantly — sleek, silvery, soulful, and full of personality. They’re often called “the grey ghost” because of their stunning coat and the way they move: elegant, athletic, and always with purpose.

Bred originally as hunting companions, Weimaraners are incredibly intelligent and energetic. They thrive on activity, problem‑solving, and being right by their human’s side. If you’ve ever met one, you’ll know they’re equal parts shadow, clown, and athlete.

Their expressive eyes are one of their trademarks — soft amber or blue‑grey, always watching, always thinking. They’re deeply affectionate dogs who bond hard with their families, often choosing one favourite person to follow from room to room.

Weimaraners need structure, stimulation, and plenty of exercise, but in return you get a loyal, sensitive, goofy best friend who’ll keep you laughing and keep you moving. They’re the definition of a dog with heart and horsepower.

If you’ve ever loved a Weim, you know: they’re unforgettable.

🎉🐾 Happy 13th Birthday, Harvey!

Today my beautiful boy turned 13, and of course we had to celebrate in true foodie style — with a homemade pup‑cake made from all the good stuff. Oat flour, egg, a little oil, chia seeds, peanut butter, grated carrot and yoghurt… simple, nourishing ingredients that are gentle on tummies and full of natural goodness.

Harvey & Ivy supervised the whole process like the seasoned pro he is, and both he and Ivy got to lick the spoons (the best part, obviously). They each had a slice afterwards, and the tails did not stop wagging.

Thirteen years of softness, stubbornness, sweetness and soul. My best boy, my shadow, my heart dog. Here’s to many more gentle birthdays with you. 💛

🥬🐾 Why Dogs Love Crunchy Veggies (Especially Cabbage!)

Raw veggies can be a brilliant addition to your dog’s diet. They’re naturally hydrating, full of fibre, and offer that irresistible crunch dogs love. Think of them as nature’s enrichment: simple, healthy, and fun.

Many dogs enjoy things like cabbage, broccoli, carrots, and peppers — but cabbage is often the unexpected favourite. There’s something about the texture and mild sweetness that really gets their tails wagging.

And if you’ve ever handed your dog a cabbage leaf, you’ll know the real prize is the centre core. That firm, crunchy middle is like a built‑in dog treat. They always go straight for it.

Just remember to introduce veggies slowly and in sensible portions. But as far as healthy snacks go, raw greens are a lovely, low‑calorie option that most dogs genuinely enjoy.

🚿🐶 Why Dogs Lick Your Legs After a Shower

If your dog rushes in the moment you step out of the shower and starts licking your legs, you’re definitely not alone. It’s one of those quirky behaviours that actually makes perfect sense once you understand how dogs experience the world.

Firstly, dogs explore through taste and scent, and after a shower your skin smells completely different. Fresh water, warm skin, and the faint scent of your products all create a little sensory puzzle they want to investigate.

There’s also a bonding element. To your dog, you’ve just “disappeared” behind a door, so licking can be their way of reconnecting and checking in with you. It’s a greeting ritual wrapped in affection.

And finally, some dogs simply enjoy the tiny traces of salt left on your skin, even after washing. Their senses are far more sensitive than ours, so what feels like clean skin to you is still full of interesting information to them.

So next time your dog gives you a post‑shower leg‑licking session, know it’s a mix of curiosity, comfort, and love — their way of saying “you’re back, and I’ve missed you”.

🐾 Why Calm Environments Matter for Our Dogs

Dogs communicate so much through their body language, their breathing, and the way they choose to settle. A calm, predictable environment gives them the space to decompress, observe, and feel safe enough to just be themselves. Not every dog arrives confident — some need time, reassurance, and a gentle pace before they can relax fully.

What I love most is watching those tiny shifts: softer eyes, slower breathing, choosing to lie down nearby, or finally drifting off into a proper, restful sleep. These moments aren’t just cute — they’re signs of trust, emotional safety, and a nervous system that’s finally settling.

Whether a dog is anxious, elderly, excitable, or simply new to the space, creating a peaceful environment helps them regulate, learn, and connect. It’s one of the most important parts of the work I do, and it’s something every dog deserves — a place where they can exhale and feel understood.

🐾 Meet Zolly: The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Superstar

I’ve got a gorgeous Staffy boy staying with me at the moment called Zolly, and he’s the perfect reminder of what this breed is truly about. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are one of the most affectionate, people‑loving breeds you’ll ever meet. They’re known for their loyalty, their sensitivity, and their huge hearts — far from the stereotypes that often follow them.

Zolly is a brilliant example of the Staffy spirit: expressive eyes, a wiggly body that can’t hide excitement, and a personality that fills the whole room. Staffies thrive on routine, calm environments and positive interactions, and when they feel safe, they soften into the sweetest, most trusting companions.

They’re also incredibly intelligent and emotionally tuned‑in. A Staffy will pick up on your mood before you’ve even said a word. They’re strong, yes, but they’re also sensitive souls who respond beautifully to gentle guidance, structure and reassurance.

Caring for Zolly is a joy, and he’s a lovely reminder that Staffies aren’t defined by their reputation — they’re defined by their loyalty, their kindness, and their desire to be close to their people.

Let’s talk puppies.

Yes, I do take puppies — but they do come at a higher rate, and for good reason.

Puppies need intensive care, structure and supervision to help them feel safe, settled and confident in a new environment. It isn’t just “dog sitting”; it’s hands‑on developmental support.

This little chap, Keith, was a perfect example. Because he was already crate trained, he understood the need for quiet time when needed — which is such an important skill for young dogs to learn. In stimulating or unfamiliar places, that ability to pause, reset and self‑soothe makes a huge difference to their wellbeing.

Puppy bookings include:

• more frequent toilet breaks
• structured nap times
• controlled socialisation
• positive‑reinforcement routines
• close supervision and gentle boundaries
• crate‑confidence support (if they’re already trained)

It’s all about giving them the best start — calm, consistent, and developmentally appropriate care that sets them up beautifully for adulthood.

All About Basset Hounds

Basset Hounds might look like slow, sleepy little souls… but there’s so much more to them than those big ears and droopy eyes.

1. They’re scent‑tracking specialists

Bassets have one of the strongest noses in the dog world — second only to the Bloodhound. Their long ears help sweep scents upward, and their loose skin traps smells so they can track for miles.

2. Low to the ground, but not low‑energy

They may look chilled, but Bassets were bred for endurance. They can walk for hours and love long, steady sniffing adventures.

3. Stubborn… because they’re smart

Their independence isn’t “naughty” — it’s instinct. When you’re bred to follow a scent for hours, you learn to think for yourself. Positive reinforcement works best.

4. Masters of vocal expression

Bassets don’t just bark — they sing. Expect howls, yodels, groans and full conversations if they’re feeling dramatic.

5. Built for comfort

Those big paws, chunky bodies and soft expressions make them world‑class cuddlers. They love company and thrive in calm, affectionate homes.

6. Health awareness matters

Because of their long backs and short legs, they benefit from:

• controlled weight
• gentle exercise
• avoiding lots of stairs
• supportive bedding

7. Sensitive souls

Despite their stubborn streak, Bassets are incredibly gentle, emotional dogs who bond deeply with their people.
