Isn’t it interesting how closely the advice from Supernanny Jo Frost about raising children mirrors what we’re seeing with dogs today?

Every day, we’re faced with headlines about out-of-control children and unruly dogs. While dogs obviously aren’t scrolling on their phones, the underlying issue is strikingly similar.

As dog owners, it’s our responsibility to step up. We chose to bring them into our lives, and it’s up to us to teach them how to behave and thrive in a human world. Clear guidance, consistency, and boundaries aren’t just helpful—they’re essential.

Hi everyone! Just a quick update to let you know that I’ll be taking a short break and will be out of the office until 16th June.

Happy World Parrot Day 🦜💚

Now, I know this is a dog training page… but as many of you know, my second passion is parrots — especially parrot rescue.

Parrots are some of the most intelligent, emotional, and complex companions you can have, yet they are also among the most misunderstood. Too often they’re kept in cages that are far too small, without enough mental stimulation, social interaction, or freedom to express natural behaviours.

Unlike many other pets, parrots aren’t just “ornamental” — they require time, space, enrichment, and a deep level of commitment. When their needs aren’t met, it can lead to serious behavioural and welfare issues, which is why so many end up needing rescue.

On this World Parrot Day, I’d love to raise a little awareness:
🦜 Bigger cages (or ideally aviaries) matter
🦜 Daily interaction and enrichment is essential
🦜 They are lifelong companions — not short-term pets

If you’ve ever thought about getting a parrot, please do your research first… or even consider supporting a rescue instead 💚

🐶👃 Did you know your dog’s nose is basically a superpower?

Here are some mind-blowing facts about a dog’s sense of smell:

✨ Dogs have up to 300 million scent receptors in their noses (humans have only about 5 million!)
✨ The part of a dog’s brain devoted to analyzing smells is 40 times larger than ours
✨ Every dog’s nose print is unique, just like a human fingerprint
✨ Dogs can smell things over 10,000 times better than humans
✨ Their wet noses help trap scent particles, making detection even stronger
✨ Dogs can even “smell” time tracking how scents fade to figure out when something happened!

No wonder they’re used for search & rescue, detecting illness, and even finding lost people 🐾❤️

Next time your pup stops to sniff EVERYTHING on a walk… just remember, they’re basically reading the world’s most detailed newspaper 📰🐕
