Happy World Parrot Day 🦜💚
Now, I know this is a dog training page… but as many of you know, my second passion is parrots — especially parrot rescue.
Parrots are some of the most intelligent, emotional, and complex companions you can have, yet they are also among the most misunderstood. Too often they’re kept in cages that are far too small, without enough mental stimulation, social interaction, or freedom to express natural behaviours.
Unlike many other pets, parrots aren’t just “ornamental” — they require time, space, enrichment, and a deep level of commitment. When their needs aren’t met, it can lead to serious behavioural and welfare issues, which is why so many end up needing rescue.
On this World Parrot Day, I’d love to raise a little awareness:
🦜 Bigger cages (or ideally aviaries) matter
🦜 Daily interaction and enrichment is essential
🦜 They are lifelong companions — not short-term pets
