They are not rare recessive colours, they are not exotic, they are introduced via crossbreeding. These dogs are then continually bred from by people who are out to scam you by charging a premium price for a poorly bred dog and who take advantage of the fact that the Kennel Club do not care to check or challenge litter registrations.
The only true coat colours are chocolate, yellow or black. Fox red or white are just darker/lighter shades of yellow. Some dogs may have coat mutations, such as black patches on yellow dogs or white patches but they still remain true to their coat colour.
Dilute genes are introduced through crossing out to other breeds and the dilute genes are notoriously BAD for a dogs health. Resulting in many debilitating health conditions typically affecting the skin, eyes or ears. Things that the dog suffer with for life.
If you're choosing a Labrador Retriever for your family, choose from a breeder who has tested their dogs to be clear from any dilute genes, in addition to the standard genetic and health testing (eye, elbows, hips, and hereditary disease markers).
