At Nick Cox’s home, the most sought-after sitters aren’t hanging on the walls. They’re two springer spaniels, his « pooches »: one black and white, the other liver and white.

The portrait dealer behind PERIOD PORTRAITS lives surrounded by faces: bishops, bygone beauties and gentlemen in red coats gaze down from every wall.

The dogs arrived when he left London for the countryside and made themselves at home without asking: on his desk, at the foot of the paintings, among the pillows beneath a wall of mezzotints and, with a certain sense of protocol, on two upholstered armchairs.

A former fashion editor, once described as the most charming art dealer in England, Nick Cox specialises in portraiture from the 17th to the 20th century. He has a rare gift for spotting what others have missed, including a previously unknown miniature by the Bolognese painter Lavinia Fontana.

Since the dogs arrived, he says, there’s never a dull moment, and work feels like play.
To the Old Masters, the gilded frames. To the springers, it seems, the house.

Ma Rue Propre, Second Edition

Our dogs experience Paris closer to the ground than any of us. Every day, they wander its pavements, roam its parks and linger at the foot of each tree with that gentle curiosity we hold so dear. They are the ones who live the city most intimately, and they are the ones who deserve, more than anyone, clean and well-kept streets and parks.

This is the spirit behind Ma Rue Propre 🗑️♻️🚮 , an initiative led by Marcel 🐶 and his human Mathieu, bringing dog lovers together for a moment of simple, heartfelt sharing. It is a project that deeply moved us, and one we wished to share with you.

After a first edition in the Marais, the next gathering takes place in the Batignolles.

Saturday, 3 October, 2 p.m. Dog park, 3 place Charles-Fillion, Paris 17th

An hour-long walk to meet one another, let our companions make new friends and offer the neighbourhood a little of the care it deserves. The walk is open to all, with or without a dog, and all equipment is provided. It will continue at a neighbourhood café, where participants will be welcomed with a cool drink.
