I wish everyone a very Happy New Year and best wishes ! ❤️🎉
Happy Bark took a much needed break to recover from the insane dog rescue mission that took place in 2024 in Tunisia 🇹🇳 until last year !
I personally had to take a step back as I was starting a new job, which is very much taking most of my time. And on top of that we ended up adopting Max which radically changed our lives 🐶❤️
It’s been a year full of discoveries and learnings, as I didn’t know much about dogs and the significant work you need to put for yourself to know how to train rescue dogs - who are scared little pups coming from such a different place - a place of fear, violence and death. It’s still very much work in progress to help Max and the other rescue deal with their reactivity in an environment which is not hostile to them, as they were in survival mode before, not being able to socialise properly with the outside world to make sure they were safe and could leave the country without any long-term physical and other trauma.
I had to take a break from the dog rescue world too because I couldn’t take it anymore. Getting desperate requests to save unfortunate dogs and cats being shot, beaten up or left to starve on the street was overwhelming. It was too much to deal with while I was working full-time. sometimes it’s best to retreat and take care of yourself first.
There are many issues I and all the other families had to overcome (and are still working on) when it comes to making sure the dogs and people can live in a safe, trust-based environment. Understanding it takes a lot of time, effort, dedication and willingness is key to give these dogs a new fair chance at life.
Yes it’s been incredibly challenging and sometimes to this day there are stressful moments to deal with. I would still do it all over again because knowing that these are saved and getting all the love they deserve matters more than anything. The rest I’m sure will follow with time ⏰
Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive, from family, friends, online animal lovers to vets, flight and shelter volunteers, to anyone else who made sure these 6 dogs would reach their families 💜
