I mounted this Canadian lynx (Lynx canadensis) already some time ago, but I don't think I ever posted pics of the finished piece. Now I experimented with self made artificial rock panels, and made a new base for him.
This species is quite different from our native Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) in many ways. Size, proportions, head shape, and even fur structure. Having worked with both species, I find it astonishing that only a few decades ago these two were classified as one and the same species.
Mounting this lynx was challenging, I only had a dry tanned skin and no measurements, So I started with a commercial form, and modified it to fit the measurements of the skin. I also used a skull of this species for reference. For this lynx I used a bobcat jawset, that matched my Canada lynx skull almost perfectly.
Oh, and look at the White toes of this cat!

Here are a couple more pics of my puff adder (Bitis arietans), that scored 85 points in the master's division at the ETC . The taxidermists of the Finnish Museum of natural history kindly took this piece to the show, and brought it back safely.

I just got the information that my puff adder got a nice, red ribbon in the Masters division at the European taxidermy championships In Salzburg, Austria. Not bad!
To celebrate this, I'll have a nice sauna and some beer today. 🍻

This is something I don't think I will ever get another chance to work on in my taxidermy career : A wild red fox with albinism! This was a beautiful, adult female from southern Finland. I hope I did her justice, and I hope the client is happy!

I haven't posted in a while, as I have been busy with herpetological fieldwork this summer, but I just packed this little piece of taxidermy to be delivered to the client in Hungary.
This very pretty ermine (Mustela erminea) is on its way to the client in Hungary, and is actually being transported and delivered to the client by Her Excellency the Ambassador of Hungary herself! Not bad!
I am now on my way to the Åland islands for a couple more weeks, to collect some more reptile data. But soon I will be back to business, in a new workshop!
Stay tuned!

This was a fun project. The customer wanted his deceased yellow ratsnake mounted around this iron cross. It was bit of a challenge to figure out a way to make the body coiled around the cross, but in the end this combination of carving and foam-pouring worked pretty well.
I have never worked on this species before, and I don't know how much the colours will fade during drying, but we will see. Now it needs to dry a week or two before the finishing work.
I hope you all have had a great Easter!

Some reptile taxidermy in the making. This will be fun!

Here is the outcome, a gorgeous Canadian lynx (Lynx canadensis), mounted on the form I posted before Christmas. Also this time I only had a dry tanned skin with no measurements other than the skin itself, so I altered a commercial form to fit the measurements of the skin.
The skin was not very good, lips and eyelids were missing, ears and toes left unskinned, but I think it turned out pretty nice for what it was.
It still needs a base and a lot of finishing work to be done, eyelids need to be sculpted after it has completely dried. I will post more pics when it is ready.
I hope you all have had a great Christmas and I wish you all a happy 2023!

Stay tuned, people! This will be something very cool.
