This so true for many of us đđ
âš FINDING YOUR OWN YELLOW BRICK ROAD âš
If you havenât been living under a rock, youâll know thereâs a little film out at the moment called Wicked â inspired by the world of Oz.
And watching it made me think about my clients, my students, and my own journey through dog sports and dog training.
Because whether we realise it or not, weâre all walking our own kind of Yellow Brick Road.
(And frankly, most of the chaos begins the moment our personal âTotoâ decides to bolt in the complete wrong directionâŠ)
đ THE JOURNEY IS THE POINT
The path isnât meant to be straight, predictable, or perfectly paved.
Youâll face challenges.
Youâll be pushed out of your comfort zone.
Youâll have people who begin with you but donât stay.
Youâll question yourself.
Youâll grow in ways you didnât expect â and sometimes didnât ask for.
But thatâs the magic of a big journey:
It shapes you.
It strengthens you.
It reveals your heart, your grit, and your capacity to keep moving even when the road bends sharply.
Dog sports have a way of reflecting your internal world â your highs, your lows, your strengths, your insecurities.
Itâs not just training the dog⊠itâs discovering yourself.
đ A LITTLE WICKED WISDOM
If Wicked taught us anything, itâs this:
There are always two sides to every story.
Different perspectives change everything â criticism can turn into compassion, judgement into understanding.
Your job isnât to label someone elseâs path as right or wrong.
Your purpose is to walk your own path with clarity and integrity.
Let others travel their journey while you commit to yours.
đ FIND YOUR PEOPLE
Just like Dorothy didnât walk alone, neither should you.
Find the people who support you, who understand you, who help you grow.
Your âtribeâ matters â they shape how boldly you walk your road.
đ MY OWN YELLOW BRICK ROAD
My journey into dog sports has never been a straight line.
Most of it unfolded online.
Where I began is not where I ended up â and where I am today is exactly where I need to be.
There were moments where there wasnât a seat for me at the table.
Not even a spare stool.
So I built my own table.
And something incredible happened:
By daring to walk my own path â even when it went against the tide â
I created ripples that encouraged others to do the same.
To step into their own identity.
To follow their own road.
Thatâs the power of honouring your journey.
đ WHEREVER YOU ARE TODAYâŠ
If youâre feeling strong, lost, excited, confused â
or like Toto has yet again run into the distance, dragging your sanity with him â
stay the course.
Be true to yourself.
Trust your path, even when it twists, slows, or disappears for a moment.
In every version of Oz â classic or Wicked â the journey looked messy, unpredictable, and at times completely unplannedâŠ
But it always led the characters exactly where they needed to be.
And so will yours.
âš **Walk your Yellow Brick Road.
Honour your story.
Let others walk theirs.
Because it was never about the destination â
Itâs about who you become along the way.** đ
