Today the Sierra de Baza wore a blanket of fresh snow🥶❄️, and winter finally showed her wild side at El Acebuche Stables. ❄️
Rain swept across the yard, the wind cut sharp and cold, and the mountains disappeared beneath a frosty mist .
Our horses spent the day snug under there night shelter paddocks and wrapped in their warm rugs with thick, cosy bedding beneath them. Full tummies❤️, peaceful snoozes😴, little snorts of satisfaction… nothing lifts the heart quite like knowing they’re safe, warm, and happy while the storm dances outside.
Even on the coldest days, this place feels full of life and warmth. ❤️
Here’s to winter magic and the wonderful souls we care for every day.

🌿 El Acebuche Stables🌿
“Paloma and the hay "

Just another beautiful Autumn day here at El Acebuche Stables , love the golden mornings, with happy horses, and the soundtrack of cheerful nickers (and the occasional bray from our leading lady queen Paloma the donkey).

Paloma the donkey decided she fancied a little self service this morning while we where off loading the hay.
she was standing watching us off loading the bales, ears flicking, looking as if she’d simply planned a picnic. A few minutes later she appeared and helped herself .
Life with horses (and one very clever donkey) is never dull here at El Acebuche Stables . Between the laughter we have with all the animals every day it reminds us how lucky we are to share our lives with these wonderful characters.

Here’s to another week of sunshine and smiles 💛.

🌵🐎 75 Horses, One Desert, and a TV Commercial 🐎🌵

A good few years ago i got one of those phone calls you never quite expect — “Would you be willing to go to Namibia and manage 75 horses… for a TV commercial?” At the time I was living in the western cape South Africa 🇿🇦.

Now, let me tell you, when someone says seventy-five horses and Namib Desert in the same sentence, you pause. You check if they’re serious. And then, of course, you say yes 😃.

Fast forward and there I was — standing under a sky so wide it made you feel like you’d fallen into it, surrounded by a sea of sand, wind, and some of the most breathtaking Arabian horses . The logistics were wild: water, shade, feed, temperament — and, of course, trying to make sure every horse hit its mark when the cameras where rolling.

It was a mix of chaos and magic. Long days, stunning sunsets, a few stubborn moments (from both horses and humans), and a reminder that when you love what you do, the extraordinary somehow becomes possible.

Still can’t quite believe I got to be part of something so unique — 75 horses galloping across the Namibian desert for the world to see. 🌅

🌿 Welcome to El Acebuche Stables 🌿

A passion for horses, tradition, and training excellence .

My name is Ondine Owen de Freitas and I’d love to share a little about how El Acebuche Stables came to be.

I was born in Málaga, Spain🇪🇸, to English parents, and grew up in an equestrian family devoted to breeding Egyptian Arabian horses . From a very young age, I was immersed in the world of classical riding, and that early foundation shaped both my career and my lifelong passion with horses 🐴.

At the age of 18, I moved to South Africa 🇿🇦 with my family and with six of our Egyptian Arabian horses. There, we continued to breed, train, and compete, while i frequently returned to Spain for further training and development.

Over the years, my experience expanded into breeding Anglo-Arabians, and later sporting horses. I managed my own livery yard, worked within competitive and breeding establishments, and gained a deep understanding of equine care, training, and breeding excellence.
For the past seven years, I have been back in Spain, where I now run El Acebuche Stables a place dedicated to quality horsemanship, personalised care, and a deep respect for the horses we work with.

🌿Our goal is to create harmony between horse and rider, combining experience, dedication, and tradition to bring out the best in both 🐴✨.

A Little Care for Paloma 🫏💛

At El Acebuche Stables we have Paloma, a sweet older donkey with the kindest eyes and the gentlest nature that has been with us just over a year now . She came as a companion for a older horse and has made herself right at home ❤️.

It’s clear she’s had quite a life, and we suspect she’s never had her teeth done before. So this week, Paloma had her first ever dental check-up and float! She was an absolute star, and we can already see the difference — she’s eating more comfortably, looking brighter, and showing more of her lovely personality.

Sometimes, a little bit of care makes a world of difference. We’re so happy to give Paloma the comfort she deserves and to see her settling beautifully into her life here at El Acebuche Stables. 🫶
