Who knew the little scared dog from Ireland, would be such a cracking little search dog and a pretty cool demo dog for the classes. Xx

A simple guide to loose lead walking.
Remember to also click on the walk, when the dog is in a nice position, feeding down the side of the leg.

A young sulley- tested my patience and skills as far as he could 😂😒 so glad I'm as stubborn as he was and refused to give up on the training 😂🥰

The dog training (and training in general!) world lost an icon yesterday. Karen Pryor passed away yesterday age 92.

Most people will not know her name, but I personaly think they should!!

Don't Shoot the Dog - Karen Pryor Academy, and multiple of her books are just a few of the things that she created that enabled me to be the trainer I am today.

Don't Shoot the Dog, and Reaching the Animal Mind are two books that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about clicker training and positive animal training.

Karen pryor was a pioneer in the use of behavioral science, she started by developing the dolphin shows at Sea Life Park. While there, as the curator and head trainer, she did ground-breaking work on animal behavior and cognition. Her work then led to the first scientific paper on training animals.

Karen Pryor saw the big picture, and understood how these training techniques could create empathetic and effective communication not just with marine mammals, but with all other animals too.
She advocated for all Animals in captivity, so that they are now handled more humanely and are trained without force and pain ! What a woman!

Thank you Karen Pryor for your incredible contributions to the world!

Has your dog been NAUGHTY or NICE this year ... it may be too late for this Xmas but there are still a couple of spaces on our january dog training course to make sure they are on the nice list next time around.

Tomorrows classes ...

As of right now I'm not going to cancel the class as the met office on aki have given the following report..... I'm also aware that cancelling the class mean pushing it further back into Xmas dates that don't work for alot of people.

However- if this weather information fails to be correct and the weather is wild tomorrow morning, thenI will do another post to update and cancel if neccessary. You will be notified by 7.30 x

If the class goes ahead the meeting point will be the carpark on the left as you enter happy valley.

Please keep checking this page if you are on this weekends courses.
The location may have to change due to the current issues down happy valley. It will still be at happy valley but certain areas are currently out of bounds.
Also the weather forecast is not looking great again 🌧

CANCELLED !!!

Due to the current thunder storm tomorrows lessons will be cancelled. The valley is currently flooded and trees have fallen onto the roads. So have a nice Sunday morning off and give your dogs a cuddle instead. The course will be extended by a week to accommodate the missed lesson.

Please also remember there are no classes on next week due to remembrance Sunday.

See you all in 2 weeks. Keep up with the training. I will send out emails individualy.

This week in the courses, we discussed desensitisation. Using exposure therapy for things such as fire works and other loud noises.

Bonfire night is fast approaching, it may already be too late to train and prepare your dog for this years fireworks. The best you may be able to do this year is make your dog as comfortable as possible.

However you can prepare them for other celebrations such as, new year, easter in cyprus and next years fireworks.
This kind of training can take a long time to see progress, so it is worth starting it as soon as possible, especialy for puppies.
It is worth putting the effort in to see your dog cope with these situations better.

Have a look YouTube for firework exposure therapy and training noises. However don't do this training without advise and guidance from a trainer on how to do it correctly.
There are great videos with step by step instructions and different levels .... if anyone would like to know which videos I recommend please just drop me a message.

Sulley turned 15 last week !
He was the first dog I ever trained, and boy did he make it as hard as possible on me 😂
To think iv been working and training dogs for 15 years is crazy !!

It's 2 months until BONFIRE NIGHT! . Make sure your dog is prepared now!! The earlier you start this training the better...

If you have adopted a dog within the last year, this is the perfect time to start training for bonfire night. Especialy if you have rehomed a cyprus hound, as it is common for them to having anxiety around loud bangs.

If you dog has not experienced fireworks or thunderstorms before, or you are unsure how your dog may react to them, start sound therapy/desensitisation, so that you and your dog can be prepared.

There are many helpful websites online such as the blue Cross and dogs trust.
