I am so disappointed. This is wrong. I've spent a lot of time taking dogs off the street here and this is a slap in the face.
UPDATE for everyone asking about the 3 neglected dogs:
First of all, thanks to everyone who commented, shared and reached out with their concerns.
Adopters are so hard to find. However, we found 9 candidates interested in these poor babies, without even seeing a picture of them🍀🤞🏾
Out of the 9 we picked the 2 best fits🙏🏽. Everything was set for these dogs to get out of that situation, but we needed to follow rules and procedures and contacted Bienestar di Animal - GMN veterinaire zaken. Since the dogs have an owner, we didn’t want to get in any trouble. The communication was amazing initially, we planned everything out together, as we were on the same page.
We went to the house together, took the dogs and handed them to them. GMN told us to wait 7 days for them to see what’s up with the owner, standard procedures. We never got to see the dogs again after helping them on site, but trusted the process.
After continuously asking for updates daily and no response, last Friday (9 days later) we were notified by an unknown colleague, that the owner got to keep the 2 least malnourished dogs, who were fed by neighbours and volunteers….while they decided to find a home for the cane Corso in their own network……dismissing all our work and efforts😔
Their point was: the dog was never ours and they have the right by law to decide what to do with them. Point, blank, period.
We are so sorry for not being able to share the happy ending of this story with y’all and apologize to everyone who reached out to help. There’s nothing we can do.
We are pending for a conversation with vet. Zaken to see how we can avoid stuff like this to happen in the future, as Dogs Of Curacao stands firmly for working together and building bridges between organizations. We feel very disappointed, betrayed and sad.
Rescuers are very important VOLUNTEERS and deserve more respect, as we all want the best for these creatures too, and are an extension of what they get paid for to do. We wouldn’t have to exist, if the system functioned properly….
We really hope these dogs at least get spayed and neutered so we can be dispensable one day in the future.
We will not stop fighting and this case remains open for us….
Thank you all for your efforts, we tried…💔😢
