Tofu cat litter and silica gel cat litter (also known as crystal cat litter) are two types of cat litter with significant differences in composition, performance, and user experience.
Tofu cat litter is a clumping type of cat litter based on natural plant ingredients, primarily including tofu residue, cornstarch, and wheat flour. Its core advantages are its environmental friendliness (flushing) and excellent odor control and clumping ability. When wet, tofu cat litter quickly forms tight clumps, effectively trapping urine and f***l odors inside. In practice, its odor control is outstanding among similar products, even maintaining a noticeable odor for over 12 hours. It also produces almost no dust, making it more respiratory-friendly for both cats and humans, and its natural ingredients make it relatively safe even if accidentally ingested by cats.
However, tofu cat litter is usually more expensive and prone to moisture damage in humid environments, requiring airtight storage.
Silica gel cat litter (crystal cat litter), on the other hand, is a non-clumping type of cat litter. Its main component is silica (silica gel), and it appears as transparent or colored hard granules. Its main advantages are good absorbency, low usage, and the ability to indicate urine absorption status through color changes; however, its biggest disadvantage is that it cannot absorb f***l odor, only urine, so it needs to be cleaned frequently, otherwise the odor will remain obviously. Silica gel cat litter granules are relatively hard, which may make some cats feel uncomfortable on their feet, and it cannot be flushed down the toilet and must be disposed of as solid waste.
