In March 2026, the team at Agruniveterinaryclinic in Georgia successfully managed a high-risk anesthesia case for Marty, an 11-year-old Dachshund with a severe heart condition. β€οΈ
Marty was brought to the clinic for dental extractions but was diagnosed with severe dilated cardiomyopathy (ACVIM stage C3), a condition where the heart struggles to maintain stable hemodynamics. This presented an extremely high anesthetic risk. However, a painful abscess made surgical intervention unavoidable, further complicated by a critically low cardiac contractility with only 10% fractional shortening.
Anesthesiologist and cardiologist Dr. Natia Robakidze meticulously evaluated Marty's condition and developed a personalized anesthetic protocol. Thanks to her expertise, the 2-hour and 20-minute procedure was completed without any complications, maintaining stable blood pressure and heart parameters throughout. The dental procedure, led by Dr. Barbare Kurtsikidze, involved precise X-rays to identify affected teeth before extraction and oral sanitation. This case stands as one of the most complex in the clinic's history.
