Don’t wait for an emergency to introduce your dog to a cone.🐾
For many dogs, an e-collar is scary—not just annoying. The good news? You can turn it into a positive experience before surgery day.
Here’s how 👇
1. Desensitization first
Leave the cone on the floor with treats around it. Let your dog explore on their own. No pressure, just positive vibes.
2. The “head-in” game
Lure their nose inside with a treat, then let them pull back out right away. Repeat. They learn: head in = reward, and they’re never trapped.
3. Short wearing sessions
Fasten the cone for 1–2 seconds, then remove + reward. Slowly increase time. Watch for stress signs (tucked tail, pinned ears). If you see them, take a step back.
4. Enrichment during recovery
Use puzzle feeders and lick mats (peanut butter or yogurt work great). A busy brain = less focus on the cone.
✅ Why it works: Positive reinforcement is kinder and more effective. Dogs trained this way show less stress and recover better—cone and all.
Start now, so if your dog ever needs a real cone, it’s just routine. Not trauma.
🐶 Save this for later and share with a fellow dog parent!
