Greetings to all! Let me begin by giving you an update on our most recent c-section litter with the premies. Six of the seven pups seem to be doing relatively well considering the ordeal they've been through; the 7th pup has what appears to be a tooth puncture behind his right shoulder and began declining yesterday morning however I've kept him somewhat stable with multiple tube feedings yesterday and throughout the night. I'm applying Animax ointment to the wound which seems to be helping heal it quicker. He's too weak to latch on and nurse at this time but there still a glimmer of hope. I've sub q'ed fluids as needed and kept him in the incubator with oxygen flow into it which is very beneficial. Premie's especially have a hard time maintaining their body temperature so an incubator is a must. The oxygen concentrator that pumps oxygen into the incubator is in my opinion a must as well. I have a vet appt this morning and will probably take him with me as there was a bit of a foul smell coming from the wound in the early morning hours; I did start him on Amoxicillin yesterday to try to offset any infection and he got his 2nd dose very early this morning--the smell seems to be lessening so hopefully antibiotics are kicking in. I will keep you posted...keeping my fingers crossed.
The second thing I'd like to address is some of the comments I have received about my initial post concerning the arrival of this litter. As many of you know, I'm a very transparent breeder; I have nothing to hide. With that being said, I am also very experienced at what I do and not only that but I have wonderful mentors and I'm extremely grateful for their assistance/advice when needed. My dilemma is when individuals come onto my Butterball Kennel page and post ignorant comments with little to no experience or education in this area. This isn't my first "rodeo" and it certainly won't be my last; I am well informed and relatively well equipped to handle my breeding program and raising my pups and have the experience backing me. I don't need uneducated and foolish remarks and I will NOT tolerate such ignorance. I don't need you to tell me how to do my job. I always do what is best for each of my dogs so please do us all a favor and keep your advice to yourself or better yet, exit my page! To those of you that follow my page and support what I do, I'm extremely appreciative. Have a blessed day!
