Lipizzan Association of North America

Lipizzan Association of North America L.A.N.A. is a Registry for Lipizzan horses, maintaining records of breedings and births of purebred and partbred Lipizzans in North America. Founded in 1992.

Our members also share information and expertise about this rare and historic breed of horse. In 1992, members of the oldest American Lipizzan registry, the Lipizzan Association of America, joined with members of the Lipizzan Society of North America to combine their interests and form the Lipizzan Association of North America (LANA). LANA is a North American representative to the Lipizzan Interna

tional Federation, a world-wide association of Lipizzan owners and breeders. The LANA website includes information on classical dressage training, contact information for Lipizzan breeders, photos of Lipizzans, the history of the Lipizzan horse, links to the Lipizzan stallions of the Spanish Riding School & Austrian Piber Studfarm, and gift items featuring Lipizzan and Baroque horse pictures. LANA’s prime objective is to provide members with accessible, accurate, and verifiable pedigree information, not only from American breeders, but also from overseas sources. To this end, LANA has established the Lipizzan Pedigree Trust to research and maintain pedigree records of purebred Lipizzans. This trust operates under a separate Board of Trustees and functions as a historical repository and research center. Partbred Lipizzan horses are recorded in a separate division of LANA.

Supporting Our Easy Keepers: Feeding the Overweight Horse

Did you know that many Lipizzans are what we lovingly call “easy keepers”? Their sturdy, Baroque builds and thrifty metabolisms mean they can easily pack on the pounds, even on what seems like a modest diet.

At LRF, we often work with horses who arrive overweight, putting extra strain on their hooves, joints, and overall health. Helping them reach a healthy weight is just as important as refeeding those who arrive underweight.

Here are a few key principles we follow:
✅ Low NSC (non-structural carbohydrate) forage - Grass hay tested and appropriate for metabolic needs
✅ No grain – Just balanced minerals to support healthy weight and hooves
✅ Slow feeders – To mimic natural grazing and prevent boredom
✅ Movement matters – Gentle exercise, turnout, and stimulation
✅ Regular check-ins – Weight tape, body condition scoring, and vet guidance

Each Lipizzan we care for gets a tailored plan that respects their unique history and physiology.
