Puppy socialization isn't what most people think....and not getting it right is why many behaviour issues can show up later. Thought this may be a timely discussion.
Socialization is not letting your puppy meet every dog, person and child. It's not chaotic playdates. And it's definitely not taking your puppy to the dog park or bench "to socialize them"
Real socialization is calm, intentional exposure to the world so you puppy feels relaxed, confident and unbothered around people, dogs, places and sounds
This matters most during the critical socialization period of 8-16 weeks. This is when their brain starts to decide what is normal, what's exciting, and what's too much.
Calm observation over interaction
Trips to Canadian Tire or Cabelas, going to the lake or pet friendly coffee houses
Quality over quantity
Dogs and people exist without engagement
Confidence isn't built through excitement. Its built through calm repetition and neutrality.
