🔥🐾 Wildfire Smoke Safety for Your Pets 🐾🔥
With wildfire smoke affecting air quality across parts of Ontario, it’s important to remember that our pets are breathing the same air we are.
Here are a few ways to keep your furry family members safe:
🐶🐱 Keep pets indoors as much as possible when air quality is poor.
🚶 Limit outdoor activities to quick bathroom breaks. Avoid long walks, hikes, or vigorous play until air quality improves.
🏡 Keep windows and doors closed and, if possible, use air conditioning on recirculate or a HEPA air purifier to help reduce smoke indoors.
💧 Provide plenty of fresh water to help keep your pet hydrated.
❤️ Watch for signs of smoke irritation, including:
• Coughing or gagging
• Difficulty breathing or rapid breathing
• Red or watery eyes
• Nasal discharge
• Lethargy or unusual tiredness
⚠️ Puppies, kittens, senior pets, flat-faced breeds (such as Bulldogs, Pugs, and Persian cats), and pets with heart or lung conditions are especially vulnerable to wildfire smoke.
If your pet is showing any of these signs or you’re concerned about their health, please contact your veterinarian right away.
Stay safe, Ontario! Together, we can help keep our four-legged family members healthy during wildfire season. ❤️🐾
