**About Jodie Fitz

gerald, LFDM-T**

I am Jodie Fitzgerald, LFDM-T, and I have been dedicated to the care and wellbeing of both humans and dogs for over 30 years. My work is grounded in a lifelong interest in holistic health, behavior, and psychology. I spent 24 years working as a nurse, where I developed a deep respect for the connection between physical health, emotional wellbeing, and lived experience. Over the past decade, I have focused this lens on dogs, becoming a Licensed Certified Family Dog Mediator® and a Dog Obedience Trainer/Instructor. I am committed to ongoing education and continually expanding my understanding of dog behavior, welfare, and individual needs. I have several years of hands-on experience caring for and working with some of the most challenging dogs entering Border Collie rescue, including dogs struggling with fear, aggression, separation anxiety, and the lasting effects of neglect or mistreatment. These experiences have shaped my calm, thoughtful, and compassionate approach. I genuinely enjoy complex cases and believe progress is always possible when dogs are supported properly. In addition to training and mediation, I have experience caring for boarding dogs in both kennel and home-based environments, always prioritizing safety, emotional wellbeing, and quality of life. My own dogs continue to be my greatest teachers. Each came with their own history and challenges, and while none are “perfect,” they are happy, resilient, and well-adapted. Together, we continue to grow and learn every day. I am dedicated to helping dogs and the people who love them live in harmony—building understanding, trust, and lasting relationships. I believe in you and your dog.

One thing that has really disappointed me this summer is how many dogs I saw with a variety of head ‘Halti’s’ or using collars that choke dogs. 💔

Please, PLEASE have a look at all the vital parts of their body that are being affected by these tools and methods to control. This does not even include structures on the nose and face.
There are other ways to treat animals without hurting them.

It’s always exciting going on an adventure!

Sometimes the best thing we can give a dog is time, space, and support to just DOG. 🐾🌿

To explore the brush, follow a scent, choose where to go, slow down, speed up, stop and investigate—whatever feels good to them.

That’s what these adventures are about: creating opportunities for dogs to enjoy the behaviors that matter to them.

More do***ng. More choice. More Total Welfare. ❤️

Could your dog use an adventure like this?

Do you ever think of what is expected of dogs??

They do keep trying.
I see dogs that are doing their very best, all the time.

It is the human species that needs to do a reality check and learn how to help dogs be dogs.

Please be social and like people but not too social because jumping up is rude.

Please be energetic and want to go on walks with me but be able to calm down immediately afterwards.

Please be protective of me when I need it but not all the time.

Please tell me when someone is arriving or coming to the house but then calm down immediately so you don’t embarrass me.

Please hold your bathroom needs until I am able to let you out, even if that’s for hours, and make sure you only use this area.

Please be so loyal and devoted to me but not be anxious when I leave or am gone.

Please be playful but only when I want to as well and never play too rough.

Please be independent but immediately return to me if I need you.

Please ignore thousands of years of natural instincts because we live inside now.

Please let me touch your stuff and your body and your food at any given moment and not have a problem with it.

Please be okay with confinement and not be loud or get bored.

Please spend my work day relaxing but then walk politely on a 6 foot leash with me when we do go outside.

Please accept these human made substitutions for enrichment as just as good as the real thing.

Please save your chewing, shredding, digging and other outdoor behaviors only for items and areas that I designate and at times convenient to me.

Please get along with other dogs, even if they are pushy or rude, and never ever hump anything or anyone.

Please watch birds and squirrels and other small animals quietly and not chase them, especially on leash.

Please listen dutifully to me under any and all distractions.

Please eat the same food every day and only show interest in food I offer you in certain contexts, not at any other time.

Please accept these strangers touching and patting you in public because it makes us happy.

Please, do all these things. And you’ll be a “good” dog.

I could go on and on and on. But this is what I see and hear all day. It’s probably the most unfair deal you can imagine between two species, and yet you know what? They still try. Despite us humans not being okay with over HALF of the demands and expectations we put on them, they still try. We don’t deserve them, so we should learn to treat them as such.
