Dear members,

We have received some sad news about the passing of one of our long time members.

Bjarne who bred and kept some beautiful Canaries, will be missed. We send our deepest sympathies to his family.

Sincerely,
Vancouver Island Cage Bird Society

Avian influenza is still around , please keep your feathered friends safe.

Limit contact with wild birds.

Maintain bio security standards of washing before and after handling your birds. If you have birds outdoors, make sure they are covered and wild birds cannot access them. Also that you have a wash station at you entry(including tray with disinfectant for you to step in before you enter and after exit)

I was talking to someone with a mobile chicken coop- just because the coop covers the birds, if you move it they have a chance to get infected, as you cannot be 100% certain that the ground/area you are moving them to has been contaminated.

Remove wild bird feeders.

It is recommended that birds are not moved during this time, some areas may also have an order in place for stop the shipment of birds. The border also has stopped bird crossings via ground shipments.
