Its the first day of
Accessibility means different things to different people....
To some it could be, can I drive there?
To some it could be, are there stairs, objects in the way, enough lighting, information in accessible formats, inclusive people, supports and so much more!
From visiting a friend, a home to live in, to getting food, accessing basic services and participating in community.
Access should be for everyone!
Try it....
Wear a blindfold and walk with a white cane downtown to the barber.

Use a wheelchair to go get a coffee or groceries.

Tell us about what AccessAbility means to you!

Many of you know or know of Anakin. But, we have a lot of new members on this amazing page and I want to take this opportunity to introduce the newcomers to Anakin.

Who is he?
Anakin is a 24-year-old young man who lives with legal blindness, a few neurological health conditions and autism. No stranger to facing oppressive systems, socially-constructed barriers, acceptance in the face of hardship and resilience like no other.

Anakin decided he wanted a place of belonging. One with few limits, created from determination and connection, driven by compassion and inclusion and expanded by teamwork and community.

Anakin envisioned the Diversity Den Society and the community around him is helping his dream become a beautiful reality.

He also likes to play guitar, tell wild stories and plays a great game of MTG.
Feel free to say Hi next time you stop by and know that his life experiences have shaped who we are and what we do ❤️

We get asked a lot about how people can help the Diversity Den Society and what our needs are.

We are in the process of fundraising to install an accessible washroom on our main level and we also have the opportunity to gain more space for our Cafe in the front of the building that we are located in. In order for us to do both of those things, fundraising and sponsorship are key!

We are also already planning our huge one year anniversary bash for the week of August 1st where we will have an exciting silent auction, many prizes to be won, and some fun games to play!

www.diversityden.ca/donate
Check out this link for ways that you can help us reach our goals. You can also make monthly donations on the donation form to our profile on Canada Helps!

Our current item needs list is as follows:
A dual head espresso machine
A small L-shaped bench
A small cafe table with four white solid chairs
Supplies to make dream catchers
Blue asphalt paint (for the accessible parking stall).

This sponsorship directly creates meaningful employment opportunities, workplace skill development, and increased independence.
