🕷 Tick season is here in full force! We’ve been receiving a lot of emails lately from concerned pet owners finding ticks on their dogs — you’re not alone! It’s important to check your pets after walks in grassy or wooded areas 🌲🌾

🧐 Not sure what kind of tick you found? Use this free app (or visit their website) to help identify it:
eTick (https://www.etick.ca/) - simply upload a photo of the tick!

💊🩺If your pet is on prescription tick prevention (such as Simparica or NexGard), the medication will kill the tick before it has a chance of transmitting anything.

UPDATE: A heartfelt thank you to our amazing community, both near and far! Our clients are truly moved by the kindness and generosity they’ve received. So many individuals and local businesses donated quality supplies, providing a crucial step toward helping them rebuild and navigate this challenging time.

One of our wonderful clients suffered a devastating loss last night when their barn tragically burned down. By some miracle, they woke during the night and were able to get their horses out just in time. However, everything else was lost.

These are the kind of people who always give but never ask—so on their behalf, we are reaching out to our incredible horse community for support. If anyone is able to contribute, they are in need of:

- Pitchforks
- A wheelbarrow
- Winter blankets (sizes 74”, 78”, and 81-82”)
- Buckets (water and feed)
- Extra halters (horse size)
- Beet pulp

As horse people, we all know how much we tend to collect over the years—if you have any extras, big or small, they would be deeply appreciated as they navigate this incredibly stressful time.
In an effort to respect their privacy, donations can be dropped off at Mills Veterinary Services. Thank you so much to anyone who can help!

Hello to our fellow sporting dog enthusiasts!
We’re considering hosting an event in Kelowna for the community and want to know if you’re interested! It would be an opportunity to connect and learn all about nutrition and supplementation for your sporting dog companions! The seminar will be held towards the end of March (exact date to be determined based on enrolment). We are open to suggestions for venues as well! Please contact the clinic if you would be interested!

Halloween is fun for us, but it’s often stressful or even dangerous for our pets. Here are some tips to keep your furry friends safe this spooky season:

🎃 Keep Treats Out of Reach: Many Halloween treats, especially chocolate and candies with xylitol, are toxic to pets. Make sure they’re safely stored away.

👻Costumes with Care: If you dress up your pet, make sure the costume is comfortable, doesn’t restrict movement, and has no small pieces they could swallow. Always supervise a dressed-up pet!

🦇 Watch Out for Decorations: Keep lit candles, pumpkins, and small decorations out of reach to prevent burns, accidents, or ingestion.

🍂 Secure Your Home: Constant doorbell rings and trick-or-treaters can be stressful. Create a safe, quiet space where your pet can relax away from the excitement. Pets may be spooked by fireworks so ensure they are in a secure area where they cannot escape!

💀 ID and Microchip:** Make sure your pet’s ID tag and microchip info are current, just in case they get spooked and escape.
