Today marks the beginning of fall... We hope you can enjoy the changing of season with your pets, as I'm sure they will always enjoy long walks in the cool crisp air, taking in all the different smells, and perhaps a romp around in a nice big pile of raked leaves! πŸ‚
Do you think your pets enjoy autumn? Or would they prefer to be back to summer, splashing around and soaking up the sun...? 🌞

For those of you who have cats with renal disease, did you know that we carry many different types of renal-specific food, in both wet and dry formulations? 🐾

Cats with renal disease may struggle with their appetite and willingness to eat, so by having different aromas, textures, sizes, and shapes of renal diets available to feed, we can do our best to keep things new and interesting for them, in order to support their nutritional needs at all times. 😻

Reach out to us at 604-888-4142, if you have any questions about the diets available to your pet, or feel free to ask to discuss these options the next time you're in. πŸ“ž

Today is National Dog Walker Appreciation Day! We here at the Fort Langley Veterinary Clinic are extremely grateful for our favorite local dogwalker - Willow & Fern Pet Care. πŸ•πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

They make sure Jasper has loads of fun on his walks and treats him like one of her own. Our team loves looking at the photos they take of him on these adventures, and Dr. Mackenzie really appreciates the comments and updates provided during these walks, as well as the map to see where they've gone! 🐾

You can find their information at our clinic the next time you're in. β„Ή

Last month, we posted about the importance of dental care for our pets. We thought we would help make it a little easier for you to help manage your pet's dental hygiene, so we have put together dental care 'goodie bags' for your dogs and cats. 😸

They contain a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental wipes, as well as a few pamphlets and helpful write-ups on topics such as how to get your pet used to toothbrushing, the importance of dental care, what happens during a dental cleaning procedure, and information on recommended dental food and dental treats. πŸͺ₯

You can receive a dental care 'goodie bag' after scheduling and having an oral health examination done with us, so that we can assess the state of your pet's mouth! 🦷

Call us at 604-888-4142 to book an appointment. πŸ“ž

It's that time of year again! The kids are heading back to class, lunches are being prepped, and bags are packed full of supplies for days full of learning! But have you considered that these lunch bags and school backpacks could contain items that may be hazardous to your pets? πŸ€”

Foods such as grapes, raisins, citrus fruits, onions, nuts, gum, chocolate, candy, salty foods, and foods that have gone bad or become moldy, can all pose various levels of danger to your pets - from mild stomach upset, all the way to serious toxicities and seizures. Ice packs also pose a significant risk if chewed on and contents are ingested. 🍫

School supplies may also be appealing for a pet to try getting a hold of, and some markers, crayons, pencils and glues, for example, can be toxic if consumed. Items such as erasers and toys can also pose a risk of an intestinal blockage! πŸ–

Prescription and over the counter medications such as inhalers, ADHD medications, and Tylenol/Advil, are also extremely unsafe for pets and require immediate medical attention if ingested. πŸ’Š

Make sure to keep bags containing these items out of reach from your pet - don't underestimate their ability to get into things that they shouldn't! Consider storing backpacks away on high shelves, or in rooms that they cannot access, so that you can ensure they stay safe from these potential hazards. 🐾

Please call if you are concerned that your pet may have eaten something that they shouldn't have! You can reach us at 604-888-4142 πŸ“ž

For our next staff feature, we will be sharing a little bit about our Registered Veterinary Technologist, Alexa! 🩺

Alexa graduated from the Douglas College Veterinary Technology program in 2023, but has been working in the veterinary world since 2019, and has been loving animals for as long as she can remember. As an assistant, she worked at a bird-only hospital, as well as at an emergency veterinary clinic. As an RVT, she spent a summer working at a marine mammal rescue rehabilitating wild harbor seals, before going back to emergency, and then finally finding her way to us here in Fort Langley! 🐾

Alexa loves animals of all kinds. She has a lovely rescue dog named Fern, a silly sphynx cat named Taro, as well as various pet reptiles. She has a special interest in wildlife, particularly bats, and has volunteered her time working with local bat researchers. πŸ¦‡

Outside of work, you can find Alexa enjoying the outdoors with her pup and her partner, dancing and working out, and enjoying new good food. At home, she might be playing board games, video games, enjoying a good show, or indulging in one of many different creative hobbies. 🎸
