🚨 Classes are cancelled this evening 🚨

Given how many students are in the affected area, and how quickly things can change, we’re encouraging everyone to stay home and be prepared.

Hang in there, guys. Don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything I can do for you!

For Wednesday’s scent students - we can very easily switch to a Zoom lesson tomorrow if needed. I will update students via text tomorrow ❤️

Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.

Happy heavenly birthday, Kupo ❤️

🚨 Students in the evacuation alert area 🚨

I can only imagine the stress our Paradise/CBS friends are feeling with the Paddy’s Pond fire so close. With the alert in place, you will not be able to return home if an evacuation order is sent out, so please do what is best for your family when planning any non-essential activities. Training can wait if you need to miss class to take care of your own - we can organize makeup sessions in the future for anyone affected by the fires, and we have waived any cancellation policies for students affected by the fire. Classes will be going ahead for any students who can safely make it to Torbay. We have our paws crossed that the brave first responders can keep the fire from spreading too close to homes, and we are doing all the rain dances for our CBN friends.

Stay safe everyone, our hearts are with you. ❤️

Have you ever worn a pair of pants that dig in at the waist?
Had a sock slide down into your shoe with every step?
Or spent the day fidgeting with an itchy label that wouldn’t sit right?

Not painful.
Just annoying. Distracting. Enough to put you in a bad mood.

Now imagine you couldn’t take it off.
Imagine no one noticed.
And instead of helping you, they told you to behave better. Focus more. Stop overreacting.

Discomfort changes everything.

It affects your tolerance. Your patience. Your ability to cope.
And dogs feel it too—even when they don’t show it in ways we expect.

Dogs are bred to be stoic.
They push through. They keep going.
But just because they can doesn’t mean they should.
They’re not robots.

If something in your dog has changed—if they’re grumpier, less focused, slower to respond, more sensitive—don’t assume it’s a behaviour issue.
Start with kindness.
Start by asking: Could they be in pain? Could they be uncomfortable?

Especially if you already know they’ve got allergies, or arthritis, or another health condition.
Discomfort doesn’t always shout. Sometimes it just whispers.

The good news is: pain and discomfort can often be fixed.
And when we fix that, everything else gets easier.
It’s the little things that make life better—for them and for us.

Let’s start by fixing what we can fix.
Because that’s the kindest way forward.

As I was sharing a sunset moment with my boy tonight, my heart was with my reactive clients.

It takes time to love your difficult dog. It takes time to learn how to manage them, train them, meet them where they are, and above all accept the role you were given in their guardianship. But I can promise you, it is so worth it. I give Denzel a hard time when I talk about him - but underneath the jokes about what a 💩 he can be, is the sweetest most sensitive boy that I share the deepest unspoken bond with.

Tonight I drove Denzel down to the point, because he can’t walk down that far anymore. We used to walk the entire Mad Rocks trail, then swim, then do some sniffing or puzzle toys at the end to decompress. I took those days for granted.. boundless energy, always ready for an adventure, always asking for more.

I’d give everything for more time with this dog.

After his salty swim, he was prancing around in the long grass in the golden hour, and I thought of his rainbow bridge. It isn’t coming for him yet - but when it does - I hope that’s how he feels. Fresh, free, and full of zoomies. For now, I’ll keep on appreciating the dog that I raised and shared so many beautiful evenings with.

Spend time on your reactive dog now, so you can enjoy your time with them for longer. ❤️
