PUPS FOR THE UNITED STATES:
The new rule was based on this: there was an incident where rescue dogs from Iran travelled into the US from Canada. Never left the airport. They had fake documents, and had developed rabies in the US, which was controlled. Dogs were euthanized. Canada immediately stopped allowing rescues to travel through here to the US.
Time for an update:
The ridiculous CDC rule came into effect August 1, 2024. Pups must be 6 months old minimum, be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies. A form must be completed by the importer on the CDC website.
The Beagle community stepped up and wrote letters, made phone calls, to no avail. The CKC and AKC complained. To no avail.
the ONLY organization to step up to the plate: The Sportsmen's Alliance of North America, based on Columbus, OH. They called us and asked for beagler names in OH/MI. I gave them. None were willing to let their name stand as a plaintiff ( fear of repercussions). The Sportsmen's Alliance then asked if I would, and I said yes. I am not afraid of anyone, never have been.
Mid September 2024 the lawsuit was filed. 30 days later the CDC filed a rebuttal.
The District Judge immediately gave it to a Magistrate Judge to give an opinion. December 19 2024 a hearing was held, both the lawyers for the CDC and the Sportsmen's Alliance presented.
The Magistrate Judge gave her opinion to the Judge 2 months later.
The District Judge then called for rebuttals from the CDC and the Sportsmen's Alliance. They did.
10 days ago the District Judge ruled, "NO INJUNCTION"!
The Sportsmen's Alliance has immediately filed an appeal with the Sixth Circuit.
I have several beaglers who sent me their legal opinions ( lawyers) who were astounded by the opinion of the Magistrate Judge AND the District Judge. The 2 judges did not rule on the arguments from the CDC or Sportsmen's Alliance, rather had their own.
About 2 months ago I mentioned to one lawyer that in my opinion this will go against us, because of fear to be in the crosshairs of a person now in power. I believe I'm right.
We have more people in the US wanting pups than I can shake a stick at. We are NOT going to keep any pups until they are 6 months old. Pups MUST go to their new owners between 8-10 weeks old. They transition best, stay healthy, and get the individual care and attention they need in order to make excellent hunters and/or companions.
So for now, I am daily adding names in my orderbook from the US.
Should the Sixth Circuit rule in our favour we may still be breeding, but no guarantees. We are keeping a few pups back now, and see how they develop. I suspect by Fall 2025 we will have some dogs for sale. If we do, I'll put out a notice. For those within Canada, it's business as usual. But, we are done in terms of pups for 2025
Let me add this: It has been the Sportsmen's Alliance ONLY recognizing how this CDC ruling can/will gouvern not only the age of pups coming into the US. It may also gouvern how hunters hunt, how trappers trap, how a gouvernment agency is allowed overreach based on nonsense. I urge everyone to take out a membership in the Sportsmen's Alliance.
Both the CKC and AKC could have done more. Talk alone doesn't work.
In closing we would like to thank the very, very many people who have and are supporting us. Who are supporting our dogs. Our dogs haven't changed over the years, people/trials have. We still and will always breed for: Intelligence, Hunt and Desire, Bring a rabbit around to the Gun, Excellent conformation, and above all, be a great companion, be it in the field or in the house.
Yours in Sport, Branko and Frieda Krpan
