RABIES REMINDER - while not a close township to us, a reminder that this disease is in Ontario and carries a fatal prognosis in our pets. Keeping our furry family members up to date on their Rabies vaccination is important to keep them safe and protected.
A bat located in the City of Woodstock has tested positive for rabies. An individual who was exposed to the bat is receiving rabies post-exposure prophylaxis which will prevent them from contracting the virus.
A reminder to protect against rabies by:
➡️Vaccinating your pet against the rabies virus.
➡️Ensuring your pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date.
➡️Keeping pets indoors at night.
➡️Touching base with your vet if you see any potential wounds on your pet from a fight with wild animals.
➡️Teaching children to stay away from wild animals and strange dogs and cats.
➡️Always asking permission before trying to pet an animal.
➡️Supervising children around animals.
➡️Not attempting to touch or feed wild animals.
➡️Not touching sick animals.
➡️Not approaching animals behaving oddly or aggressively, and
➡️Being familiar with the signs of rabies in your pets and wild animals.
