PAWS4Health-y Pets
1989 was both a wonderful and a tough year for my family: Just before our granddaughter was born, my husband had a heart attack - we spent our 30th wedding anniversary in Dartmouth General Hospital. At the time, I was a fairly heavy smoker. But the day after my husband landed in the hospital, I quit cold turkey. I must have been ready to say goodbye to my Benson and Hedges because it wasn’t hard to let them go. I never had another cigarette, never wanted one. Around the same time, the bank where I worked was taken over by another financial institution, people were being pink-slipped right, left, and centre – it was unbelievably stressful. So I took a retirement package.
And proceeded to drive my family up the wall.
I’d always wanted another dog, but my husband was devastated when we lost our family dog, Tippy, in 1982 and didn’t want another. But, I prevailed! I researched dogs, found my perfect breed - terriers! - and in 1993 welcomed Kali the awesome Airedale into our home and hearts. Sadly, we lost her to cancer. A few years later, we lost her sister Dutchie and a few years later, we said goodbye to our last Airedale, Kori, as well. Cancer took them all.
THAT’S when I really got passionate about natural/organic and raw pet food and supplements. I wanted answers. I wanted to know why my beloved poochies had died so young. After Kali passed, I researched pet food, and canine cancer. I found out kibble and the crap that was sold in stores could very well have been a death sentence for my dogs.
