HAND STRIPPING & WIRE COATS

I had the pleasure of doing my first hand strip on Bomber the Border Terrier today! We didn’t get her completed today but she’ll be back for a tidy up in a couple of weeks.

Hand stripping is pulling the dead hair of a wire coat by hand with the help of stones or a stripping knife. It maintains the integrity of the wire coat and reveals the lush colour of the coat. When a wire coat is clipped, it grows back soft and is very difficult to get back to wire.

Wire coated dogs don’t need to be bathed as often as their coat repels dirt. Because of the this, it is said that wire coated dogs don’t have the “doggy odour” when their coat is maintained properly.

This very sweet girl unfortunately needed to be shaved last time she was here. Shaving a double coat is a LAST resort and is something that I avoid doing.

She is now on a regular schedule and we are working on repairing and maintaining her beautiful coat. 🌸

This is called line brushing.

Please keep your pets brushed at home! It not only helps keep them tangle free, but it then becomes a normal part of life and help them to resent the grooming process less.

🐶 the handsome Wendell was very good for his first groom.

Did you know that dogs go through a coat change that starts between 9-12 months and it could last a couple of months?

During this time, they shed their soft puppy hair in exchange for their adult coat. It is very important to to brush during this time as they could matt up easier.

I love watching this girls videos. She does a great job educating owners on the importance of grooming and the trials we face as groomers.

Doodles have become very popular as pets but they can get a bad reputation in the salon. This emphasizes the importance of keeping your doodles on a regular schedule, starting them while they’re young to teach them grooming etiquette while they are small, and keeping them brushed between grooms.

Yes, even the smooth coated breeds such as Olivia the Frenchie benefit from grooming. This pile of hair doesn’t include what came off in the tub and with the dryer!

It was a busy first day back at the table!

Bella and Farley are returning and always sport a low maintenance short cut.

Sparky sporting a Happy Hoodie, used while drying during a shedding treatment to cut noise, help calm, and help dry the ears which many dogs don’t like dried with the dryer.

Mekah breaks the stereotype for Huskies. She did not sing me the song of her people but certainly gave me a furnado!

The last time I saw Chloe was in 2018! She is a farm dog and got a shedding treatment to clean her up for an upcoming wedding.

Whitney the Bernese cross, also came in for a shedding, and I have NEVER removed this much before. She is feeling so much better after her Spaw day.

Sparky came in for a much needed shedding treatment! I’m looking forward to seeing more of him as we get him on a regular schedule to keep that fluff under control.

Daisy is a new addition to a friends family and this sweet heart had scruffy wiry hair that we took off.

Her owners report that she promptly went home to roll in manure. Yet another reason why short is the way to go!

So I sheared a sheep today 🐑

I really need to start taking before pictures, because Bella looks so different once we took off her longer wiry hairs! Underneath that wiry hair was a super thick coat. Looking forward to seeing Bella again!

I wish I got a before picture! Jazzie came in for her first grooming today. She was very matted, and very nervous, but was such a sweet girl.

I’m really looking forward to keeping this beautiful girl on a regular schedule to maintain her coat and help her to enjoy her spaw days.

I post this picture with great sadness, as I hear of the passing of my very favourite friend, Casey.

This picture was just taken on Thursday, and I never would have imagined that it would be the last time I would see him. I have known Casey since my early years of grooming, and he was always the best boy.

My deepest condolences to Casey’s family. You will be greatly missed Casey! 💔🌈

I can’t tell you how excited I am to not be grooming in my kitchen anymore 🤢🤮

How amazing is my husband? Last week I was surprised with a hydraulic table as an early anniversary gift. Then last night when I went to get ready for today, I found a tub! No more washing your smelly pets in my bathtub WOOT WOOT!

My space may not be beautiful, but it’s doing the job. Just needs some paint, and a few tweaks to make it a more permanent set up.
