I officially opened Jungle Out There Pet Services on September 1, 2015, after my husband Richard and I had struggled to find professional in-home pet care for our own animals. My education, experience, and passion as a pet owner boasts professional, compassionate, and personalized care to both 2 and 4 legged clients. I offer a wide range of services:

- Private Dog Walks
- Off-Leash Pack Dog Walks

- Pet Care Visits (15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length)
- Home/Security Checks
- Pet Supply Pick Up/Pet Taxi
- Backyard Chicken/Small Flock Resources

All services include regular updates, a detailed visit checklist of tasks completed, an overall health evaluation and lots of TLC! There are no additional fees for medication administration or for holidays. I am insured, licensed, bonded, certified in Pet First Aid/CPR, and vet recommended. I am happy to provide references and a copy of my criminal record check upon request. Rescue work is near and dear to my heart and I have partnered with Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society for a fundraising initiative called Change for Critters! Clients will have the option to add $1.00 to their invoice which will go directly to help the animals! Call or text today to book your complimentary Meet and Greet! Effective November 1, 2016: I am unable to provide pet care services to clients who live outside of High River town limits

The sun is really starting to have some warmth to it these days and it’s not just the humans who are enjoying it! 😆

Our potbelly pig Pepper is spending the majority of her time outside these days, only coming in the barn to eat. She has started losing all her hair (which feels more like bristles). This happens every Spring and eventually she will look like a bald old man in the dead heat of summer 😂

Despite how cute and personable they are, potbelly pigs really aren’t the best pets for most people to have. They will get to be 100+ pounds, live 15 plus years if not longer, require a special diet as obesity is a big concern, can become very destructive if they aren’t provided a lot of space and enrichment, and require regular vet care such as having their tusks trimmed, vaccines, dewormed, and having their hooves trimmed regularly - something that often a vet can only do under sedation. And finding a vet who treats pigs can be a real challenge!

That all being said, we adore our Pepper girl and our lives are definitely fuller (and more entertaining ha!) having her in it 🥰🐷

Absolutely beautiful weather yesterday was the perfect opportunity to go explore our own backyard! 🏔️ We truly take for granted how lucky we are to live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

We had a great day hiking Johnston Canyon, admiring Lake Louise, popping over to BC to go to Emerald Lake and the Natural Bridge, and wrapping up in Banff. Some of these places we’d been to before, some were new to us.

It’s that time of year to get out and explore everything Alberta has to offer! 😎💚

🚜 A friendly reminder that we live in an agricultural community and to drive safely and respectfully as there is lots of large, slow moving farm equipment on highways and rural roads these days. This is one of the busiest times of the year for farmers, let’s make sure everyone arrives home safely and don’t forget to thank a farmer for all they do! 🙏🏼

My last few chickens have flown the coop 🐓❤️

For almost the past decade we have always had chickens whether it was in High River after council approved backyard hens or after we moved out to our acreage when I really expanded my flock. At one point I kept over 100 birds which included everything from laying hens, meat birds, guinea fowl, turkeys, ducks, and raising my own baby chicks 🐥 I also had the amazing opportunity to work with Alberta Farm Animal Care for several years in various capacities, my favorite being teaching urban hen/small flock workshops all across Alberta and helping the City of Calgary – Your Local Government develop their urban hen program.

Although it’s been a very fun journey and I’ve met many great chicken folks, over the past few years I’ve slowly reduced my flock in number for various reasons including both our work schedules becoming increasingly busier, discovering a new passion in horses, and the soaring costs of feed, shavings, heat, egg cartons, and the birds themselves.

The last straw for me was a few months ago, cleaning out the coop in -40. Whether you have 5 birds or 50, no matter the weather, there are always chores to be done. Every winter I am finding chores become more of a struggle and decided it was going to be my last winter with chickens, at least for a little while.

So today my last few hens are going off to their new home, which is happily to a farm of a good friend of mine! I will be bird-less for the first time in many years and will be buying eggs like everyone else now 😂 I’m a little sad as I’ll miss all their personalities and seeing them cruising around our yard, but also looking forward to not having the extra chores especially when winter rolls around again.

Thanks to all my clients who were very loyal egg customers for all these years! 🍳 I enjoyed playing a small part in your family’s food supply. I am still teaching urban chicken/small flock workshops here and there too, so if you know of a community or group looking to host a workshop please don’t hesitate to get in touch as I still love sharing my knowledge of our feathered friends 🥰

These two gals were SO happy to see one another again on yesterday’s pack walk. Ruby recently moved to the city with her family and we have dearly missed her on our pack walks, especially her bestie Sophie. Fortunately we will still get to see Ruby when her family is on vacation which makes my heart very happy 🩷 I sure appreciate her family’s continued support of my business and the girls were delighted to be reunited! 🤝

My Story

Welcome! My name is Cassandra Kirkpatrick and I am the Owner/Operator of Jungle Out There Pet Services. Shortly after my husband and I moved to High River in 2011 with our four dogs, I recognized a need in the community for professional pet care services. We both worked long days at work, and would often say to each other, "Wouldn't it be nice to have someone who was trust worthy, reliable, and loved our dogs as much as we do that could come to our home and let them out during the day?". And so on September 1, 2015, Jungle Out There Pet Services opened! My education, experience, and passion as a pet owner boasts professional, compassionate, and personalized care to both 2 and 4 legged clients. I bring you peace of mind when you can't be there. I offer a wide range of services: - Private and Pack Dog Walks - Pet Care Visits (15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length) - Home/Security Check - Pet Supply Pick Up/Pet Taxi - Urban Chicken/Small Flock Consulting All services include regular updates, a detailed ‘Paw’-gress Report of tasks completed, an overall health evaluation and lots of TLC! There are no additional fees for medication administration or for services provided on holidays. I am insured, licensed, bonded, certified in Pet First Aid/CPR, carry current WCB, and vet recommended. I am happy to provide references and a copy of my criminal record check upon request. Rescue work is near and dear to my heart and I have partnered with Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society for a fundraising initiative called Change for Critters. Clients have the option to add $1.00 to their invoice which will go directly to help the animals! Call or text today to book your complimentary Meet and Greet! I look forward to meeting you and your furry family members,

Cassandra Kirkpatrick
