Dexter's Creature Comforts Durable and cozy hammocks for your small pets. I make durable and comfy hammocks mainly for rats, but they're suitable for all kinds of small animals.

The hammocks are made with 3 layers of fleece wherever possible, or in some cases, 2 layers of fleece and a layer of UHaul padding for extra durability. Top stitching is incorporated to try and slow down pets that like to chew. I've been making hammocks for the last 8 years and began selling them to help cover the costs of vet bills and food etc. for the rescue. For the last 10 years I've been tak

ing in unwanted and abandoned domestic pet rats and finding them new homes. Your support means such a lot to me as it enables me to continue helping these amazing animals.

I mentioned the other day that we received a large donation of fleece from a hammock maker who has retired, and I'm so very grateful.
But, I’d love your input on something. As some of you know, I normally make my hammocks with three layers of fleece for extra squish and durability. But as so many of us are watching our pennies, I’m considering adding a budget-friendly line, using this fleece, made with two layers instead. They’d still have the same top stitching to prevent burrowing, but would be a little less thick and therefore a little cheaper than hammocks made with 3 layers.
Let me know if be interested in a budget line like this?
Below are pics of some of the donated fleece. This is only the tip of the iceberg, there's lots more coming in the next couple of months.

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I’ve been active here, FB tells me it's been 11 months, but I'm finally back!
Last April, hubs and I began packing up and preparing to move, and I planned to take a short (or so I thought!) break from social media. I imagined I'd be closed for a couple of months, but I found I really enjoyed the pause...perhaps a little too much! Then, just as I was preparing to dive back in, the tariffs hit and I started hearing about problems with cross border shipping, so I decided to extend the break until things settled down, and now it finally seems like they have. Phew.
Honestly, the timing couldn't be better, because last week I was generously gifted a large stash of fleece from a hammock maker who's retired. I'm still working out the details, but it will undoubtedly mean I'll be able to offer some discounted hammocks and beds.
I’m so excited to get back to creating and running my little business again. Thank you for sticking around while I took this time away, it means a lot.

TLDR I took a long break, but I'm back! And thanks to a gift of a huge stash of fleece, cozy bargains are coming soon!

Here's one of my favourite boys from a few years ago. Russell was such a cuddly boy ♥️

Wheneber a big bag ob fings shows up from Dexter's Creature Comforts here at the New Amsterdam theater, you know you’re in for peak coziness—like, top-tier comfy corner forts, snuggly hammocks and plushy piles ob p*e catchers, all stitched wiff the highest quality stitchery known to ratkind. Ebery seam is snug, ebery corner is fluffed just right, and there’s always that signature faint scent ob maple syrup that makes you feel like you're nuzzled up inside a pancake. It’s not just a package—it’s an experience. Dis is me and Barry are checking out a new cozy cube, but it's not a cube, it's more like an obal. Fanks Jayne!

Please send good vibes. I found Dark Brian rolling around in the cage on Saturday evening, and thinking it was most likely a severe inner ear infection, started treating him with antibiotics, an anti inflammatory and a painkiller. Unfortunately, 48 hours later, he hasn't responded to treatment, and if anything is worse. He's also not eating or drinking- I'm very concerned this could be something else, a pituitary or brain tumour perhaps. Whatever it is, it happened incredibly fast. This little guy is not even a year old. I hope there's something that can help him, but I feel like he might not be coming home with me. My poor little guy.
Edit to say, I haven't posted any video of him rolling around, it's a bit upsetting to watch. Thankfully, once he finds a good position on his side he's able to keep still and manages to sleep.

This is the last video I have of Josh, taken just 12 hours before he passed away. We had a regular night time routine- because his back legs didn't work any longer and he couldn't get around, we'd snuggle with some of the other rats while we watched tv. That last night he was particularly chill. I just love his little bruxxes and boggles. It's a memory that's incredibly precious to me now.

My sweet little Josh is gone. He passed away at the beginning of the month, but I haven't had the heart to post about it until now. It's the hardest rat loss I've ever experienced. Fortunately, it seems he passed quickly and peacefully, curled up with his friends. I left the house that morning, and when I returned a few hours later, he was gone, still in the same place. There were no signs of trauma and it looked like he died in his sleep. The cage feels so quiet without his presence. I miss his warm cuddles and whiskery kisses, ( his over enthusiastic rodentistry, not so much. ) I'd often walk by the cage and see him laid on his back, legs in the air, belly up, sleeping or grooming. These were two of the three most important things in his life. The third was food, which he absolutely adored and his large girth was a testament to his enthusiasm for it. I put him on a diet and you can see in the video the utter distain for the veggies I dared to offer him. I'm pretty sure friends would say they were coming to visit me, but what they really wanted was a cuddle with Josh. Honestly, can't blame them, he was the calmest, snuggliest rat ever.
He made my heart so happy and I feel so fortunate to have had him in my life. I will love and miss you forever my little friend 🤎
I'd like to extend my gratitude to Little Critter Crew, who rescued Josh when he was found duct taped into a cardboard box, and to my friend, Laura Rat Way Sanctuarywho fostered him and suggested I adopt him. Sheer madness! She knew what a special guy he was, and was still prepared to let him go. I am beyond grateful to her.
Enjoy this compilation video of him. Mostly eating. Mostly on his back. 🤎

TV time with Josh and friends is a pretty relaxed affair. His back legs don't work like they should and he's slowing down a bit more each day. It makes moments like this even more precious 🤎
