🇨🇦 Calling All Canadian Animal Sanctuaries
If you’re constantly juggling hay bills, feed runs, vet costs, fencing repairs and the occasional why-is-there-a-goat-on-the-roof emergency… this is worth checking out.

Loop Resource connects charities and nonprofits with surplus goods, donated products and practical resources that might otherwise go to waste. We’ve been using them for a few months now and the cost of our feed bill has been cut in half!

Signing up for the program can mean access to things like:
• cleaning supplies
• office supplies
• household items
• food products
• seasonal items
• and other useful odds and ends that help stretch limited budgets

Because let’s be real, every dollar saved on paper towels is another dollar that can go toward hoof trims, hay and senior pig meds.

If you run or volunteer with a Canadian sanctuary, rescue or nonprofit, it’s definitely worth signing up and taking a look.

Compassion is expensive. Community helps. 🐷🐐🐓💚

Pigs don’t wallow because they’re dirty. They wallow because they’re basically chubby little forest hippos without sunscreen. Mud keeps them cool, protects their skin from bugs and sun and frankly… spa culture is expensive. So while you hoomans are out here paying $140 for a clay mask and cucumber water, our pigs are doing the same thing beside a pond… for free… with snacks.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨 Scientists* have confirmed that petting goats, pigs, ponies and hanging out with rescue animals in the great outdoors may significantly improve your mood. (*Scientists = us. The goats refused to comment.)

So if you’ve been craving fresh air, wholesome chaos and a serotonin boost delivered by free-range roosters and judgmental camelids… this is your sign.

Hay is for horses
And goats and sheep
For bellies full
And warm beds for sleep
For donkeys and pigs
And alpacas at play
Basically everyone’s happier
When there’s plenty of hay 🌾

Did you know all sheep used to be self-shedding? Wild sheep naturally shed their coats every year, just like many dogs do. But over generations, humans selectively bred sheep to grow more and more wool for profit… until many modern breeds lost the ability to shed on their own.

That means today, domesticated sheep often NEED to be sheared by humans to stay healthy and comfortable. Without shearing, heavy fleece can lead to overheating, mobility issues, skin infections and even deadly flystrike.

So yes, sanctuary sheep still get haircuts. Not because wool production is natural but because humans changed them in ways that made them dependent on us.

The real act of compassion is caring for the sheep who already exist while questioning the systems that created them in the first place.

Also, freshly shorn sheep look deeply offended for approximately 48 hours. Then they start bouncing around like tiny liberated marshmallows.

My two cents on the ongoing “to AI or not to AI” sanctuary discourse. As a graphic designer for 30+ years, I’ve survived every creative apocalypse. Photoshop was going to ruin art. Canva was going to ruin design. Smartphones were going to ruin photography. Apparently now ChatGPT is personally escorting compassion out behind the barn.

Meanwhile, Adobe has AI built into literally everything, your iPhone has AI, your Google search has AI, your toaster probably has AI and half the people posting anti-AI graphics made them using three AI-assisted apps without realizing it.

Now, as a founder of an ethically vegan farmed animal sanctuary, I find using AI isn’t some moral collapse. It’s a tool. It saves time, cuts repetitive work and lets me spend more energy on actual animals instead of manually nudging text boxes around for six hours like it’s 2004.

Honestly, it’s made my transition from pixel goblin to art director infinitely more enjoyable. Less please-align-this-logo-0.3-millimetres-to-the-left and more storytelling, strategy and impact.

And for those desperately searching for something scandalous to clutch pearls over… yes. That is a Star of David she’s wearing. Mazel tov on solving the mystery!
