Foster update - HOOT 🦉

These are the three faces of Hoot....."I see you entering my room and I'm not taking my eyes off of you." "I see something I want to pounce on!" or, "I don't have time to see you as I am observing my kingdom."

Hoot is a very sweet girt and very sensitive. She prefers the safety of her own area but will engage in playtime in the evenings. She is very wary of changes in the environment so if things change in a room, she will be avoidant of the area for a while before she ventures in again, likely a by-product of her background that she is still working to overcome. It is easy to observe how 'aware' she is. All in all, she is such a lovely spirit of an animal who is taking her time to adjust to a new way of life......in her words, "No pets for now thank-you!" lol

While she is content in foster care, Hoot needs her forever family to choose her. Her best home will provide a gentle hand and calm, consistent environment with no commotion that will allow Hoot’s loving side to shine. She would benefit from a family who can continue her socialization journey, working with her on receiving pets and developing her confidence. Hoot is a 5 year old sweetheart.

FOSTER UPDATE: LYRA 💖

“Lyra embodies all of the best traits of a German Shepherd: she's loyal, protective, intelligent, curious, and playful.

She’s a gentle, affectionate girl who lives to love and be loved. She has these soulful, deep brown eyes that seep right into your heart. Lyra is so good, sweet, trusting of her people and loving. She is most at ease when she’s with her people (or her "pack").

This sweet girl thrives on connection and purpose. She’s happiest when she has a mix of physical and mental stimulation to keep her grounded and content. Long walks, outdoor adventures, and “sniffies” (her favorite nose-led explorations!) are the perfect ways to help her stay balanced and fulfilled.

It’s not about managing energy out of worry — Lyra is a perfect house guest. She’s incredibly respectful of our home and our things. Absolutely no worries there; she doesn’t chew, dig, or cause mischief. But like any intelligent shepherd, she feels her best when her body and mind are engaged with the world around her.

One of her quirks? She loves her toys. She’ll proudly carry them around in her mouth, her eyes locked on you, hoping you’ll join her in a playful game of chase. It’s her way of saying, “Come play with me!” — and it’s impossible to resist. She's pure joy to be around.

While Lyra is always eager to get out and explore, she’s still working on feeling confident around certain noises like traffic or cars backing up. But with patience, reassurance, and a steady hand, she continues to make progress each day. Her trust in people is incredible — she wants to feel safe, and when she does, she shines.

Lyra is ready for a home that sees her not just as a pet, but as a true companion. Someone who understands the beauty of a loyal heart, the gift of a gentle soul, and the joy of building trust with a dog who gives you her whole self.”

TWO NEW ADOPTABLE FRIENDS 🦎 🐓

Rupert 🦎-Meet Rupert ! While he has currently been working as a back up officer in our ACO division , he has decided to take an early retirement and find his forever home! Rupert is an Anole , and while he is the cutest he does require an experienced reptile handler to ensure his needs are met ! He requires at minimum a 20 Gallon tank and someone who understands his needs to ensure he keeps his health up to date.

Parmesan 🐓- Meet sweet Parmesan , The fanciest Hen in town ! Parmesan is looking for a place to call home , and while she does love people she would be best suited on a farm or a property that is permitted to have chickens so parmesan can have a friend or two! Lucy made her second appearance on CHCH Morning Live this morning. She was an absolute ham and soaked up all the love from everyone at CHCH.

Lucy’s adoption fee has been fully sponsored by U Need It Typed. She has been with us for over 500 days.

Michelle Ashton from the Humane Society of Greater Niagara introduced us to Lucy, a 3-year-old Canaan dog who has been patiently waiting for her furever home.

💙 Dr. Cornelius is a totally different bunny in foster care! At the shelter he was overwhelmed and frightened by all the noises and smells. After being in foster care for less than a week he's feeling much calmer, more outgoing and he's starting to play and explore outside his pen. His foster home has the normal hustle and bustle of a busy family home. His adopters don't need to live in a library, but he would like an adults-only home or a home with kids >12 years of age. This little fellow is only 6 months old! Let's find his people!!! 💙

💕☘️ Irish Cream ☘️💕 is the sweetest baby! She's 11 weeks old, litterbox trained, well socialized and accustomed to the sounds of a typical busy home. She can't wait to find her forever family!!

Baby bunnies are absolutely precious but they're also a big committment! Bunnies need to be trained, just like puppies. They need to be taught what to chew and what not to chew (baseboards, couches, shoes, etc) and they need to be taught to use a litter-box. Baby bunnies have a lot of energy and can be messy, destructive and a bit bonkers for the first year of life. Training takes time, patience and commitment. They are incredibly funny, adventurous and will never insult your cooking (cuz they are hungry hungry hippos!). After they celebrate their first birthday, most buns will chill out.

Initially a scaredy cat, Apollo has developed into such a loving boy. He is still quite reserved but he is full of love. Apollo loves to sit for lots of pets, and especially enjoys gentle rubs to his head and cheeks. He is just so precious. Apollo is best suited to a calm home where he can laze around, cuddle and feel safe.

Morwen is a shy but good-natured girl who loves tube treats and cheek scritches. But none of that compares to how much she would love a home of her own. She’s a 1 year old beauty with an old soul who’d love to hear about your day, catch up on your stories and help you with a crossword.
