KAAP
KAAP is a registered charity serving the West and Central Kootenay. When necessary, we extend our services to East Koots and Boundary area as well. We are 100% volunteer, and are no-kill. Kootenay Animal Assistance Program Society (KAAP) was founded in 2007 to meet the needs of homeless and disadvantaged pets who might otherwise fall between the cracks in existing services. KAAP doesn’t have an office, or a shelter, using only foster homes for our adoptable pets. Whenever possible we take in and re-home unwanted litters of kittens and puppies, making sure they are vet-checked, vaccinated and fixed. We also offer compassionate board for pets belonging to people who are between homes.
Most of our work is directed towards reducing the pet over-population problem in our area through low-income spay/neuter services, and helping with emergency vet care for ill or injured pets. Our directors and our tireless volunteers offer outreach services which include arranging vet appointments, picking up and delivering pets, in addition to of course helping with the costs. We respond to reports of abandoned or abused/neglected animals and since our volunteers are almost always available to take phone calls or messages, we also redirect inquiries to other agencies who may be able to offer assistance where KAAP can’t.
KAAP also offers a free public website for private adoptions and lost and found. Our page is very active with lost and found animals, and has proven very successful in reuniting pets with their people. We try our hardest to educate our followers on pet care, and pet safety, and often this involves reminding people to put ID on their pets to make reuniting them easier the next time.
