Did you know that red-eared sliders are often sold as beginner-friendly pets? While their small size and cute appearance can be tempting, these turtles require a serious, lifelong commitment. Red-eared sliders can live for 35 years or more, and caring for them properly means providing a large aquatic tank with clean, filtered water, a basking platform with proper UV lighting, a varied and nutritious diet, and regular veterinary check-ups.

Sadly, many owners are unprepared for this level of care. When turtles grow too large or maintenance becomes overwhelming, some are released into local ponds or rivers. This is harmful not only to the turtles themselves but also to our environment. In Ontario, red-eared sliders are considered invasive, threatening native species like the painted turtle. They compete with local turtles for food, basking spots, and nesting areas, which disrupts our fragile ecosystems.

If you're considering a red-eared slider as a pet, please research thoroughly and be prepared for a decades-long commitment. And if you already own one but can no longer care for it, contact a local reptile rescue or animal shelter. Never release it into the wild. Responsible pet ownership is key to protecting Ontario's fragile turtle populations and preserving biodiversity.

💙 BLUE JAYS WARNING ISSUED ⚾

We’re getting reports of an unusual storm overtaking downtown Toronto… and it appears to be a full-blown Blue Jays storm!?!

Witnesses describe the scene as loud, electric, and completely unstoppable as the Jays powered their way through Game 7 of the ALCS.

This marks the team’s advance to the World Series, and by the looks of it, Toronto will be staying under this Blue Jays warning for quite some time.

GO JAYS GO!

How are you celebrating?
