UPDATE OWNER WAS LOCATED

This lovely girl was found by one of our clients, just down from Amherst Drive and Amy Lynn Drive. She is an older girl with no microchip or tattoo. She has been resting comfortably with us here at the clinic today while she waits for her people. If you know this sweet girl or you are her people we are open 8am-6pm Monday to Friday. She would really like to go home!

Today is World Rabies Day! Canadians sometimes think of rabies as "disease of the past." Globally, however, it still kills almost 60,000 people per year. Rabies is almost always fatal; in recorded history less than 20 people are reported to have survived a clinical rabies infection.

There have been 28 human deaths due to rabies in Canada since 1924. This low rate of rabies is due to widespread, ongoing vaccination programs and failure to continue these programs can and will results in a return of the disease.

Bats are the most common carriers of rabies in Canada but rabies can also be found in other wildlife in Ontario (skunks, raccoons, wolves and coyotes).

There is no test for rabies that can be reliably performed on live animals. If rabies is suspected, the biting animal may be tested but this requires euthanasia and brain material testing.

Please do your part and keep your pet up to date on their Rabies vaccine! If your pet is overdue, give us a call and we will happily book an appointment for your cat or dog.

Our story...

Dr. Cutcliffe graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1996 and has been working as an associate for other veterinarians ever since. Finally, this year, she decided it was time to take the best ideas from all the practices she has worked at and set up the veterinary hospital she would want for her own pets. At Fairfield Pet Hospital Dr. Cutcliffe has built a companion animal general practice where pets and their owners will feel welcome and comfortable. You and your pets will receive our full attention and care every time, and we realize each pet is different, and each is an important member of your family.
