A few weeks ago this dog was stung by an insect on his face. The left side of his face swelled up, but he was fine after some benedryl. And all was fine for two weeks, until we woke one morning and his face was all swollen again. A quick emergency visit and it was determined that he most likely had an abscess. We were sent away with pain meds and antibiotics. A week later the antibiotics were all done, and he seemed fine, except the swelling around a tooth remained. Today he was at the vet again, this time for dental surgery. It was expected that there was a tooth root that was bad and would need to be pulled. The vet was concerned though, that the mass was hard, which is unusual for an abscess. Cancer was mentioned, and it was suggested that bone might be impacted. As it turned out, his teeth were fine- nothing needed to be pulled. The mass was scar tissue and not considered to be dangerous at all. Today I sat in the same chair that I was sitting in when a different vet told me Archie’s fatty lump was actually a sarcoma, but today I was told that Ted was healthy and well, and would be happy to go home.
So relieved. Hug your dogs!

I’ve been seeing a few more than usual GoFundMe pleas for sick/injured puppies lately, in dog related local Facebook groups. They all seem to be suspiciously similar in format, and often with something that doesn’t work so people offer to etransfer direct to the ‘dog owner’. Whilst I’m sure that some of these pleas are genuine, I think the vast majority are scams, tugging on the heart strings of all the animal lovers in the group. How can we tell the difference between a genuine need, and a scam? Very often we can’t, so however you respond, be kind and considerate, and follow this advice (see image). Ideally, donate direct to the vet (once you’ve established that the vet actually exists!)
Take care, and try and ensure your hard earned $$s go to pets that need it, and not to the pockets of scammers.

We finished a jar of peanut butter today (pure peanuts, no other ingredients; dog safe), so I gave the jar for Billy to clean it up, ready for recycling. He thought he was in heaven!
