Large breed dogs with deep, narrow chests are at higher risk of bloat, also known as gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV). When a dog bloats, its stomach twists and fills with gas, which can cut off blood supply to the stomach and spleen. Bloat commonly happens when a dog ingests large amounts of food or water too quickly. Know the warning signs and be prepared in case of an emergency. Contact us at 778-753-3507 with any questions.

Hi, it’s me… Cleo.

They told me we were going on a fun little car ride.
Next thing I know, I’m at Black Mountain Veterinary Hospital, being scooped up like a tiny burrito.

The vet tech keeps saying, ‘It’s just a wellness exam!’
But we all know that’s exactly what aliens would say right before the abduction beam turns on. 👽

I’m staying extremely alert, eyes wide, ears up, legs at full chihuahua extension.
If anyone asks yes, I was very brave.
And yes… I will be accepting treats as payment for emotional damages.”

Did you know that Beagles’ ears help their noses to smell? When drawn out, a Beagle’s ears reach the end of their nose. Their long ears actually help to catch scent particles and keep them close to their nose, which allows them to take in as much information as possible. Interesting, right? You’ve likely heard that humans have a daily fluid intake recommendation, but did you know that there are also recommendations for dogs? To find your pupper’s ideal water intake, you’ll need to know their weight. A dog should drink 1 ounce of fluids per pound of body weight. So a 5lb Chihuahua would only drink 5 ounces of water a day whereas a 110lb Great Dane should drink 110 ounces of water daily! It sounds like a lot of water, because it is! There will be some situations where a dog will certainly need more water than this equation indicates so be sure to contact us with any of your dog hydration questions.

After finishing their studies, techs must pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam, a tough national test that measures their knowledge and skills in areas like anesthesia, surgical nursing, animal care, and lab work.

And it doesn’t stop there , RVTs also complete continuing education every year to stay up to date on the latest in veterinary medicine, ensuring your pets always receive the highest level of care.

Our techs are truly the heart of what we do, from calming nervous pets to assisting in surgeries, running lab tests, and everything in between. 💕
