Saying goodbye is one of the hardest parts of loving a pet. 💜

At York Mobile Vet Services, our goal is to make your pet’s final moments as peaceful, gentle, and comfortable as possible — right at home, where they feel safest and surrounded by love and familiarity.

One of the questions we hear most often is: “How do I know when it’s time?”

To help support families through this difficult decision, Dr. Khor guides us through some of the signs and things to consider when a beloved pet may be nearing the end of their journey.

You’re never alone in this process. We’re here to guide, support, and care for both you and your pet every step of the way. 🐾

Caring for our patients means caring for every stage of their journey — including the most difficult ones 💙

Dr. Khor recently attended a conference hosted by The Art of Goodbye, an organization devoted to compassionate veterinary hospice and end-of-life care. These moments are never easy, but learning how to better support both our patients and the families who love them is something we hold very close to our hearts.

Continuing education like this isn’t just about medicine — it’s about empathy, presence, and guiding families through some of their hardest days with kindness and understanding.

We’re honoured to be trusted with your pets, not only in health, but in the quiet, meaningful moments too.

Our hearts are with Louise and her family, mourning the devastating loss of their very beloved kitty, Bug. 💔😢

Louise shared this beautiful tribute: “Bug came to us as a few day old foster with him Mum and littermates.  His real name was Julius but he was such a sweet love bug that the name Bug stuck with him from early on.  We knew very quickly he was a special boy and wasn’t going to be going anywhere.  We always said his fur brother, Kai, chose him, but really we all fell in love with him and couldn’t let him leave. Bug had the biggest heart and was funny and quirky.  He filled our house with laughter and love with all his antics over the almost 8 years he was with us.  Bug’s biggest passion was mealtimes and he loved to share your lunch or a biscuit with you if you offered- he wasn’t picky!  He adored his pet siblings and fosters and relished being the centre of attention when anyone came over.  He always greeted everyone with the loudest velociraptor purrs and head butts.  He’d sit next to you and keep a paw on your hand, just holding space and keeping you company, he loved his belly rubs, he loved outdoor time exploring with us.  He was my daughter Abi’s constant companion and roommate since she was away at uni and beyond.  Their bond ran so deep and there is no doubt he was her soulmate cat.  He left us too soon and too suddenly.  We all have the biggest holes in our hearts but have memories that we will always cherish.  Love you Bug ❤️”

Does your pet “help” you avoid doing something you detest? Our pets may want to cuddle or play with us just when we are about to start a dreaded chore or some tedious task. Perhaps our fur-babies are professional PAWcrastinators or ProCATstinators! We think they could sense when we are feeling stressed and want to help restore calm again. 😌🐾

Please share your comment or photo if you have a PAWcrastinator or ProCATstinator!

Miss Pips did not accept medication easily! 💊😾
Various forms of prescription, such as liquid, tablet/capsule hidden in food/treat, as well as topical and flavoured chews, were all rejected…some artfully splattered on clothes, floors & walls!

Alarm training was the last hope. Her meals were portioned & scheduled with a special alarm sound, designated only for her. That way it won’t be confusing with her mum’s wake-up alarm sound. Pips quickly realized the special sound meant food!! Then, her medication was given at the start of mealtime when the alarm sounded. Right after her medication, she knew she would be rewarded with tasty food. She still doesn’t love medication BUT no longer runs or hides when it’s pill time!

Let us know if your pet requires a different approach to taking medication.
