Me and Max took little Shiba Inu Kalinka (in Russian means a little red berry) to get her last puppy vaccinations and health check. She did great with her vet visit and afterward, we hit our local small-town shops for crowd and environment socialization.
Kalinka is still waiting for a family to call her own. She was born on Jan 16, 2024, to Lisa and Hiro. She has an amazing outgoing personality and loves to play with kids and other dogs. Crate trained, leash trained, potty trained, fully vetted and comes with CKC registration and microchip.
If you are interested in giving the home to our sweet little girl or know of someone who might be please visit our website and fill out our puppy reservation questionnaire here https://www.pawtopia.ca/about-4-1 or PM for more details.

As your young pups grow, it's crucial to keep in mind the significance of proper floor surfacing, healthy weight, and age-appropriate exercise. Why? Because these factors will play a vital role in their future growth and development. By prioritizing the right conditions for your pup's joint stability, bodyweight load distribution, muscle function, and kinetic chain alignment, you can reduce their risk of injury and enhance their function and performance. So, let's look forward to a healthy and happy future for our furry friends!

This is Niv, 13-month 13-month-old samoyed male who surrendered to me. As you can see in the first photos he does have what is called “Cow Hocks” which is a “common postural deviation found in canines, resulting from a muscle imbalance between the internal and external hip rotators, also known as the medial and lateral hip rotators, respectively. These small muscles are local stabilizers located near the bone and are responsible for the positioning of the femoral head in the hip socket. When the external hip rotators exert excessive pull while the internal rotators don’t pull enough, it results in a Cow Hock posture” (Anna Lee Sanders, “Correcting Cow Hock Alignment: Exercises to Improve Posture and Muscle Balance”). Certain breeds are more prone to being cow-hocked than others to varying degrees of severity and most slightly cow-hocked animals are just fine.
I should mention that in Niv’s case, cow hocks are not related to hip dysplasia and are due to the lack of proper muscle strength. The first thing I did to rule out the dysplasia diagnosis was get a consultation with our vet, hip and full hind legs x-rays, and orthopedic specialist x-ray review and consultation at Ontario Veterinary College Health Science Center in Gulph. Hip dysplasia was not confirmed however mildly shallow joint sockets were observed and believed to be a result of self-compensating posture position from the cow hocks posture representation.

With Niv’s diagnosis of cow hocks posture the only thing that any responsible owner should do is start physical therapy and exercise regime concentrated on hind leg muscle-strengthening activities. Such as underwater therapy, walks on natural terrain dirt and sand (no pavement, concrete, hardwood, tiles etc) and of course muscle staightening exercises involving workouts with muscle conditioning. So me and Niv had started doing things to increase his hind leg strength to ensure he was building proper muscle back. It's been just one month since we started to work on his proper posture and stand and just see the amazing transformation! Me and Niv still have a lot more to work on and his physical representation is still far from perfect. But with even these posture improvements he has so much more drive and endurance. His “bunny hopping” run is much less now, he shows no discomfort or signs of pain after physical activities and play times with his doggie friends and of course just the look of his pose is so much better with less drain and barring on his joints.
What I wanted to say by posting it is that with enough dedication and effort, you and your dog can achieve anything. Don't be afraid to try alternative methods that are proven to work and don't settle for the quick fix of just putting dogs on meds or surrendering them.
If you are interested in the exercises I used and the training/conditioning routine you can visit the CANINE CONDITIONING COACH website https://canineconditioningcoach.com/correcting-cow-hock-alignment-exercises-to-improve-posture-and-muscle-balance/ This is a great resource if you would like to work with you puppy/dog, create a better bond and to improve posture and health.

The doggy pool is officially open! 🥳 so much for scrabbing and cleaning 😅 10 minutes in and it looks like we are at ground zero with cleaning 😫 but hey Bosco, Milo, Niv and Poppy loved it. And the point of naming it the Samoyed self-washing station rather than a dog pool is proven yet again 😂🤣

That is how I feel today on a rainy Saturday after feeding 31 dogs (4 hotel guests, 6 rescues, 6 puppies and 15 of our adults)... Multiply it by 2 (breakfast and supper), grooming 3 dogs (including a doodle), washing and scrubbing 30 kennels and 1 whelping pen with 7 weeks old puppies, picking up 40+ poops, scrabbing dog and human pools, feeding 21 chickens, 4 ducks, 1 goose and our 3 manga pigs and 1 piglet, setting new staw for the coop and pig dens, having to entertain 3 pre-teen boys, drive a 7-year-old to girls only birthday party (and pick her up), listening to non-stop tantrums from a 3-year-old, trying to glew together my favourite rain boots, having kennel visitors and clients over for a meet and greeds, working through math homework and trying to remember what a fraction is so I can explain to a 10-year-old in a language that a 10-year-old can understand and without swearing 😅, feeding kids lunch and dinner, running after the 3-year-old with a fork and a plate persuading her to finish her pasta for 30 minutes, not to mention cooking, cleaning the dishes, changing my work clothes three times (first after grooming, socond after visiting pig pen and third just because i got that damn pasta all over myself after running after the three year old 😅)
👆ALL THAT ON TWO CUPS OF DOUBLE LONG EXPRESSO AND THREE CHOCOLATE CANDIES since 530 am.... And my day is not over... Lol bedtime routine is still ahead of me

I swear this Canada goose thinks he was born a dog 😳 besides Yosie’s every morning routine of walking kids to the school bus and chilling out with the dogs while they have their zoomins on the play yard, he acquired a new habit of playing with the water hose 😅 after seeing some of the sammies doing it. For those who do not know Yosie, he is our wildlife rescue addition to the homestead. He can't fly due to a dislocated wing since birth and grew up to think he is one of the dogs 🫣

Wow, what an amazing start to May! The sun is shining, the weather is warm, and I finally got to open my "self-washing samoyed station" 😅 - which is just a fancy way of saying water bucket! But that's not all, I also worked all day scrubbing and cleaning the 2-meter dog pool, aka the big "self-washing samoyed station"! 😂 The best part? My Shiba Inus were absolutely thrilled to see what all the fuss was about on the other side of the fence. They lined up to see what kind of fun and mischief their furry rescue samoyed crew friends were getting up to, and their reactions were priceless! 😆

After a long journey of almost two years, this handsome boy has finally found a loving home and a family to be a part of. I am beyond thrilled for Bosco's new life and grateful to his new family for giving him a chance to experience a happy and fulfilling life. May 25 marks the beginning of a new chapter in his life, where he will have a home and a couch to share with those he will come to love.

Me today after some more brushing of my Samoyeds 😂😂 honestly best part of the grooming process...that magical feeling of high-velocity dryer air on your face with speckles of saliva and fine dog hair flying from the sides of your mouth 😂 feels like I'm going down with the speed of light on the rollercoaster 🫣😆 well minus the fine hair part 🤣

Thanks to Viktoria and her mom Oksana for taking our two dirty samoyed monkeys Ciri and Zoe out today for leash practice and for helping with “Teeming the Wild Horse” Zoe 😅 who started to get a bit rebellious at this age testing her pr***en boundaries. Two more weeks for Zoe’s first baby puppy show and Cirri's second big show. ❤️

Oh boy, this is particularly true especially after just being groomed 😫😂honestly at times it makes me think that being white and smelling nice is so “unnatural” for a samoyed
Lol for the purpose of this shared video this is not a sam it's an Eskimo dog. But hey both have the same life goals- to do anything in their power not to stay clean 😂

What a good boy Bosco! Full groom to look his best before a potential long-awaited family comes tomorrow to meet him and wait for it WITH NO MUZZLE! Unbelievable progress 🥳 from the shelter’s euthanasia list for “being aggressive” to a charming well well-trained dog who is socially adequate with dogs and humans. So proud of this handsome boy.

MIXED MESSAGES IN TRAINING AND EXPECTATIONS
As pet owners, we all face a common issue - mixed messages that we tend to give to our furry friends. This is especially concerning if you have an anxious dog/puppy, as it can worsen their anxiety and make things even more difficult for them and you. Despite our best intentions, we often end up sending conflicting signals and cues to our dogs without even realizing it. These mixed messages can be incredibly confusing for them and can hamper our efforts to train them and build a strong bond. It's important to be mindful of the messages we send and strive to be consistent in our communication with our four-legged companions. Look at the examples listed below from your dog's or pup’s point of view.

👉you may give your pup an old shoe to chew.....so shoes are now ok to chew? Chew on shoes he/she will!
👉 You may tell your dog "down" over and over when you want them out of the car but they ARE down (lying down) in the back seat.
👉 They are not allowed on the furniture.....but occasionally when a movie is on they are allowed because you are in the mood to cuddle.

Have you ever felt frustrated when your dog or puppy seems to ignore your commands? It's like you're speaking two different languages, right? Well, the truth is, as owners, we can sometimes unknowingly confuse our furry friends with mixed messages. And let's face it, it's tough being a dog (or a young pup) trying to decipher what all of our different words and body language signals mean.

But if we start paying attention to the mixed messages we give, we may just start to see how many times our signals are unclear. By becoming more aware of how we communicate with our four-legged companions, we can reduce their anxiety and stress, and build a stronger bond with them. So, let's work towards clear communication and happy pups!

Things to be mindful when communicating/traing your dog/puppy:

🙄💭Are they ignoring or have we just asked them something that has a totally different meaning to the last time you said those words?

👉Have a talk with the family and work out the SAME words, cues, body signs and clear "rules" going forward. You need to work as one person with a consistent routine and set rules.

Your dog will thank you and they WILL start to show you more wanted behaviour and less unwanted behaviour simply because they now understand exactly what you are trying to communicate.

Remember without clear communication you won't reach your goals or convey a well-understood message.

👉Different rules.
👉Different words.
👉Different expectations.
👆They will always give you far different results than you may want.

We have addition to our rescue and rehome program. Meet Kayomy 18 months 18-month-old Japanese Akita Inu who had been surrendered to us due to no fault of her own as her family had to relocate and were unable to take her with them. Kayomy is a friendly and active teen who loves to spend time with children and enjoys her leash walks and a good game of fetch. She is good with other dogs (males better than females can tolerate both). Kayomy is spayed and will be up to date on all her vaccinations and parasite treatments prior to adoption. Kayomy is also coming CKC registered.

If you are interested in giving her a living home or know of someone who might be please PM for details and adoption questionnaire or visit https://www.pawtopia.ca/team-4-1.
We are accepting donations to help with her care and vet expenses that can be made through etransfer to [email protected]

After a hard debate with myself, I have decided to find a home for our beautiful Zoe as I will need more time than anticipated to train Cirilla and prep her to complete her Canadian Champion title this year; plus reorganizing our Shiba inu breeding program goals and extending our rescue involvement, training and showing another samoyed puppy this year does not look realistic to me.
So don't miss this one-of-a-kind chance to add a show prospective samoued puppy to your family. Very stable (lol I would call it bulletproof) temperament, social and outgoing, willing to learn through train and play, kids and other dog loving, bath (sammie self bathing preferred 😅) brushing and general grooming trained, crate trained, show leash trained girl is waiting for a family to call FURever hers. Fully vaccinated for the first year of life, treated for parasites (internal/external) microchipped, CKC registered. OFA-certified parents (Geneva x Blizzard).

If you are interested in giving a home to our girl Zoe or know of someone who might be please visit and fill out our puppy reservation questionnaire here https://www.pawtopia.ca/about-4-1 or PM for more details.
