We’ve been so busy since our return so expect lots of pup updates! But in the meantime, during this extremely hot weather, we want to share some tips for doggos.
HIGH HEAT TIPS FOR PUPPERS
• Never leave dogs in a car, even for a minute.
• Avoid midday walks (walk early morning or late evening).
• Watch for signs of heatstroke: excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse. If seen, move to a cool place and call your vet immediately.
• Keep dogs indoors during the hottest part of the day.
• Use fans, A/C, or cooling mats.
• Close blinds/curtains to block out sun.
• Set up a cool room (basement, tiled floor) where they can relax.
• Always have multiple water bowls filled and refreshed.
• Protect those paws! If surface is too hot for your hands, it’s too hot for paws!
• Brush regularly to remove excess fur (especially for double-coated breeds)
• Do NOT shave double-coated dogs — it can damage their coat and make heat worse
Cooling Treats ideas!
• Frozen banana + peanut butter “pupsicles”
• Ice cubes with blueberries or dog-safe veggies
• Fill a KONG with wet food and freeze it
• Freeze bone broth or treats in ice cube trays for enrichment.
