With the positive, comes the negative💔
This is something that I’ve felt needed to be said for awhile now;
This happens far too often. People reach out wanting to adopt. We have long, thoughtful conversations. Applications are completed. Sometimes we even have an adoption day planned.
And then… nothing. Silence. Left on read. Crickets.
I truly don’t understand it.
I am not unreasonable. I fully understand that life happens—finances change, circumstances shift, timing isn’t right. That is okay! What is not okay is completely ghosting us.
The amount of time that goes into these conversations matters. The time coordinating with fosters matters. And most importantly, the emotional impact on these cats matters. It is not fair to me, it is not fair to my fosters, and it is absolutely not fair to the cats who are waiting for homes.
If you are thinking about adopting, please make sure you are truly ready BEFORE reaching out for an application. Have the conversations with your partner, your family, your household. Please don’t fill out an application and then tell me you still need to ask your spouse. That needs to happen FIRST.
Recently, we’ve had a wave of applications and even confirmed adoption plans—only to be completely ignored afterward. When we mark a cat as “adoption pending,” we may be turning away other loving homes. When someone disappears, that opportunity is lost, and the cat is the one who pays the price.
Clear communication is all I am asking for. If things change, please just send a message. A simple “I’m sorry, this won’t work anymore” is more than enough. Being ignored entirely is what’s hurtful and frustrating.
And this also applies to fostering. If you reach out offering to foster and then don’t follow through, please understand how much that affects me. If you’re not prepared to commit, please don’t message in the first place.
I receive so many messages. Every one takes time, energy, and emotional investment. Please respect that. Please respect my fosters. And above all, please respect these cats.
That’s it. I’m frustrated. I’m disappointed and I needed to say it.
