German Shepherd
My brother passed away on December 16th and left behind his bestfriend, Caoimhe (pronounced Key-Vah) for readers sake, I will spell her name this way from now on.
I have since brought her home and she has been with me since December 20th.
Please read ENTIRE post before reaching out.
Keyvah is a 7-year-old German Shepherd mix. She is in need of a new home and companion who has lots of time and affection for her.
Preferably a single man/woman, or even a retired couple.
I say this because my brother spent a LOT of time with her and she has separation anxiety, which has amplified since we lost him.
I have two dogs of my own in my home, and they cannot coexist.
We had a dog behaviouralist come to our home today to analyze Keyvah’s behavior. We were told that she has K9 reactivity and just cannot live with other animals without intensive training.
I would happily do this training with her if I had the time, and didn’t have to worry about the safety of my own dogs, or Keyvah herself.
She is pretty low energy, but always ready to play too!
She LOVES to play fetch with a kick ball.
She doesn’t chew, dig or scratch.
She has many toys and doesn’t ruin any of them. She’s very gentle with taking treats and toys out of my hands, as well as my kids hands.
She does not resource guard (food, toys, etc).
She always sits and waits for food, and takes her time eating it.
She does not hesitate to roll over for a belly scratch!!
She’s a happy-go-lucky girl. Very goofy, silly and has so much love to give.
She is crate trained and sleeps in a large crate every night.
She goes for two walks/day since I’ve had her, as well as some kick-ball.
She has never had an accident inside my house.
She loves going for walks, but I would recommend walking her some where that she will not be super close to other dogs. If there’s a dog across the street, she’s fine. She is very strong so you just have to keep her inline and be a leader in walks. (Absolutely NO dog park - I think that goes with out saying, but you never know).
She has no issue putting a basket muzzle on, she just aims to please!
Keyvah also loves to take baths. She will hop right in and wait for you to turn the water on.
She needs someone who will understand her reactivity and help her navigate it in a POSITIVE, loving way. Keyvah needs a strong leader.
When I brought her home, she was overweight - 86lbs - and has since lost nearly 10lb.
I changed her food to Science Diet because that’s what my dogs eat. And I would highly suggest continuing that same diet as her coat, skin and weight has improved. Her 💩 is also a normal colour and consistency now. (It wasn’t on her previous diet).
She has no health concerns otherwise to note, and had her rabies shot/vaccinations up to date as of September 30th, 2024.
Please do NOT suggest the Humane Society, not gonna happen.
Keyvah means a LOT to me, and I’ve become so attached to her (and her to me), that this breaks my heart even having to consider this to be the outcome.
Experienced dog owners only please!
I will also require you to have a meet and greet with her some where neutral before I agree to just pack her up and send her home. 🙏🏻
