CH Skylon News Report SD, December 5, 2009 - June 20, 2025 (Porter)
On June 20th Tealgrove suffered a great loss with the passing of my big fluffy boy Porter.
At 15 1/2 Porter had been suffering with various ailments, as many senior dogs do,however he managed to put on a brave face and fought through it all until he finally let me knew that he couldn’t any longer. The time had come.
Bred by Judy Taylor and entrusted to me by Judy, another friendship was born due to a dog.
With Porter, I went in a different direction as Judy schooled me in conformation. Porter entered the show ring as I cheered from the sidelines. He did well but wasn’t overly keen on the experience. He got his CH and then we moved over and tried scent.
Oh my goodness but he loved scent and he was good at it. He titled in his first trial. Unfortunately Covid came along and everything got put on hold.
Porter loved people. He adored human companionship. He especially loved children. He loved little girls. He would strike a pose and gaze lovingly at them. He was hard to resist. Whenever kids asked to visit with one of my dogs, it was Porter that I would bring out. He was always a hit and was so gentle and calm with them.
Porter and I were very close. He was my big buddy, always close. No matter where I was, he was right there. I miss stepping over him to get out of bed, or to get through the hallway to the kitchen.
Although it’s always hard to lose our companions, this loss is especially difficult. Porter wasn’t all about ribbons and titles. He was about companionship, loyalty and love. A big character with a huge heart.
He is terribly missed.
