Why is my dog tilting his head? A cute head c**k is different from a head tilt that can point to a medical problem. If the tilt comes on suddenly and sticks around, especially with stumbling, falling, or trouble with balance, it points to the vestibular system. Vestibular problems usually come on out of the blue and look really scary. The good news is that affected dogs often start improving within just a few days.

Are black cats bad luck? Not at all. That's just an old superstition, and in some places black cats are actually considered good luck. The real problem is what that reputation does to them. Some shelters report black cats are harder to adopt, and some have even restricted black cat adoptions around Halloween. Black cats are just as affectionate and fun as any other cat, and any time of year is a good time to bring one home.

Senior dog's back legs getting weak or giving out? How it happens matters. Is your dog struggling to rise, losing their balance, walking unsteadily, or actually collapsing? Those differences can help your vet narrow down the cause. Osteoarthritis is common, but disc disease, degenerative myelopathy, vestibular disease, heart disease, and metabolic disorders can also be responsible.

Blood on your puppy's chew toys? It could be teething. Puppies usually start losing their 28 baby teeth around 3 to 4 months old, and most have all 42 adult teeth by about six months. Extra chewing and mouthing are normal during this stage. Give them safe things to chew on instead, and try the thumbnail test: if you can't dent a chew with your thumbnail, it's too hard.

Why is my dog giving me side eye? If you can see the whites of their eyes, it could be whale eye, a body language sign that your dog feels uncomfortable, fearful, or stressed. Check the rest of their body for context. A stiff body, flattened ears, turning away, or trying to escape all say the same thing: your dog wants more space. Give them that space, and don't force an interaction or punish those warning signs.

Cat straining in the litter box and only peeing tiny amounts? Most people assume it's a UTI, but in young, otherwise healthy cats, bacterial UTIs are surprisingly uncommon. A much more common cause is feline idiopathic cystitis, or FIC, an inflammation of the bladder without an infection. Infections, stones and other urinary problems can all look very similar, so figuring out the cause takes some detective work. And if your cat is straining but not producing any urine, that's an emergency.
