Hello everyone!

Just a quick post to update everyone on what my plan is for this summer. At this time I will not be offering any walks or let outs, but to help handle all the wagging tails, I have added a member to my team who will be offering the following services in Schumacher only:

-Let-out services during the day, perfect for those busy days when your pup needs a potty break
-30 minute walks
-60 minute walks

Friendly reminder to all dog owners using trail systems: Please remember to leash your dogs. It is for the safety of all dogs.

I’ve encountered many dogs in the last few weeks who do not have a strong recall and it makes it difficult to manage when walking a reactive dog.

If your dog thrives off being off leash, there are many areas where this can be done safely. My favourites are the Riverview dog park and the Rainbow loop trail at Hersey lake

Choosing a dog walker...

In Timmins there are a few really great options for your canines. How do you choose?

I personally think insurance is an important consideration. Dog walkers will work to ensure that nothing bad happens, but we can't control everything. Insurance can cover vet bills if your dog is injured, or is responsible for injury to another dog. It can also cover your residence while walkers pick up your pup. Run a Mutt is insured for on leash walking up to six dogs, dog training, and massage services.

Off leash services can be great! Letting dogs run and play. Please ask where your walker lets dogs off leash. We've encountered walkers with off leash dogs on "leash-required" trails. Many providers will use designated off leash trails, or head off the beaten track (or have even sourced private spaces for their off leash adventures, which is the gold standard!). Since we don't provide these services, if you want off leash fun for your dog, check out The Northern Collar Club , PAWsitive Dog Walking & Free Range Fidos. Jeff Latham also provides off leash fun in more of a "day camp" format with dogs being dropped off in the morning and picked up after work.

Leash walks may be what you're looking for - we can definitely do that. However, if your dog needs assistance (loose leash walking, reactivity training) then I do limit walks to when temperatures are above zero. I primarily use treats to reward desirable behaviors, and dishing out rewards with good timing is difficult in mittens. Other leash walking service providers are Northern collar club, Pawsitive dog walking, Jovanna Cloutier, and Karlee Ann Conlon ( Karlee’s 4 legged adventures )

The main difference with Run a Mutt is our switch to dogpowered sports when conditions allow. This includes dogsledding, bikejore, and canicross. Great for the dog that needs more than a walk, but can't really be trusted off leash.

Yup, it's true...we need more blankets...again!

Due to a large number of puppies currently in our care, the shelter is once again in need of sheets and blankets.
If you're looking to purge your linen closets, the animals at the shelter would certainly benefit!
Donations can be dropped off at the shelter at 620 Mahoney Road or at the Pet Valu Hollinger Court location.
