Desi's Heart Rescue Our mission is to bring love and hope into the lives of innocent animals through rescue, rehabilitation and adoption with focus on semi-feral and feral cats.

We have been rescuing stray, abandoned, feral and semi-feral cats and kittens for 12 years now. To date, we have rescued, vaccinated, spayed/neutered over 400 cats and kittens from the City of Thunder Bay. We also feed six stray cat colonies daily.

We are absolutely devastated by the loss of beautiful Hedwig… she was an abandoned cat we were trying to rescue and bring into our care. The lovely couple’s yard where Hedwig was hiding out welcomed her as part of their family when we told them there was an abandoned cat hiding in their garage.. Even though Hedwig was being cared for, Don still went every week to bring her fresh chicken. Today Don went to visit her and was beyond horrified to find Hedwig’s body in the back lane. There were tufts of her fur leading him to believe that maybe another animal attacked her. We can’t even begin to think this was a malicious act by someone but we know it’s possible given how she was found. My heart breaks for my husband who broke down and wept for hours. Don was inconsolable at finding her. I am numb. We loved this sweet girl with everything we had. Thank you Jacqueline and Matthew for loving her and caring for her when she took up residence in your garage. We are still in shock. 💔💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭

Our precious rescue bunny Snickers found out how to open Hershie’s cage… got up to blood on the floor this morning. The girls had a scrap. Rabbit fights can do significant damage. Oh Snickers… 💔😢

Please consider attending the Mandala Painting class in support of our rescue. Joanne Kannegiesser has so generously offered to teach a class to help us raise funds. Our vet bills for all of our rescues are enormous. Today, Sarah had what we thought would be a routine dental cleaning. Nine extractions later our bill is $1,411. Sarah and her siblings all came in with stomatitis. Sarah had several resorptive lesions. If you aren’t able to attend, please consider donating to our rescue account at Thunder Bay Veterinary Hospital. Thank you so much. We could sure use the help.
