Our specialty is connection and building bonds that last a lifetime. Dog training is always in a constant state of evolution, work on empathy building and influence. Work on fundamentals and create a deeper bond with you pup. Our techniques are based on the use of dog psychology, that's where the magic happens. Our goal is to help owners see the world through a dog’s eyes to facilitate efficient c

ommunication with their dogs. We train dogs of all kinds for all reasons. Puppy training, reactivity, obedience, agility, nose work, our core is service and therapy dog training. We do solely foundation work. Work on what matters most, the goal is having not only a great dog for yourself, but your family, friends and community. At Canine Valley we believe that aggression and other unwanted canine behaviors arise due to the unbalanced state of a dog. This condition arises when the dog is not comfortable and it does not trust it’s human to be a good pack leader. We teach dog owners to consistently and calmly introduce and maintain rules and boundaries that will allow them to be seen as a leader through their dog’s eyes. The Canine Valley rescue and rehabilitation program is our way to giving back to the community. If you would like to learn more about our rescues please give us a call. Food donations are always welcomed. We look forward to meeting you!

The Wisdom of the Pack: Why True Leaders Walk Last

True leadership isn't about being the first one to cross the finish line—it's about ensuring everyone else crosses it with you. 🐺❄️

I came across this breakdown of a wolf pack formation, and the strategy is simply brilliant. It completely flips our traditional idea of "alpha" on its head.

Here is how the pack moves:

🔴 The Front Line: The first 3 wolves are the old or sick. They aren't put there to be sacrificed; they are there to set the pace. By walking in front, they ensure the pack doesn't move too fast and leave them behind.

🟡 The Vanguards: Behind them are 5 of the strongest and best wolves. They act as the first line of defense if the pack is attacked from the front.

⚪ The Center: The rest of the pack walks safely in the middle, protected on all sides.

🟢 The Rear Guard: Behind the main group are 5 more of the strongest wolves, protecting the back flank.

🔵 The True Leader: And where is the leader? Not in the front, barking orders. The leader is the very last wolf (blue arrow).

From this position, he sees the entire pack. He ensures no one lags behind. He keeps the group unified on the same path. He is the bodyguard, ready to run in any direction to protect his family.

This is the definition of Servant Leadership. Real leaders don't seek the spotlight; they seek the safety and success of their team. They stand back to let others shine, and they stand guard to keep them safe.

B.C. wolves use line to pull up crab traps in first possible tool use by species

"The traps, set up near Bella Bella, on B.C.’s central coast, were being used to control the invasive European green crab, and some were in deeper water submerged at all times, leading researchers to believe the damage that started in 2023 was caused by marine mammals.

“We were going, ‘Well, what the heck is doing this, right?’” said Artelle, a researcher with State University of New York’s College of Environmental Science and Foresty.

“It can’t be a bear, a wolf. They’re not going to dive down to get to the trap. So, what is getting the traps?”

Their assumptions were wrong.

Within a day of the cameras being set up in May last year, researchers captured footage of a sea wolf emerging from the water with a buoy hanging from its mouth.

The footage then showed the wolf dropping the buoy on the beach, picking up the exposed line, and pulling it until the crab trap emerged from the water.

The wolf then picked up the trap with its mouth, moved it to shallower waters and ate the bait inside.

“We had to pick our jaws off the floor,” Artelle said.

“We know that they’re really, really smart, but it hadn’t crossed our mind that, oh, maybe a wolf is swimming out to the deeper traps and bringing the buoy to shore, pulling the line up just like a person would.”

The cameras then picked up a second sea wolf also pulling up a crab trap in a similar way earlier this year, leading researchers to believe other wolves in the local pack may have learned from each other.

Sea wolves are a grey wolf subspecies known for their marine-based diet.

As for how the behaviour started, Artelle said researchers can only speculate.

“We ultimately don’t know, but the two most likely explanations in our minds, one would be that the wolves started doing this with traps that were exposed at a low tide because that’s really easy,” Artelle said.

Researchers say a few cameras at the B.C. site are now dedicated 24-7 to the crab traps to track the behaviour of sea wolves in the area, while work is “in progress” to prevent too much damage to the traps that may inhibit the invasive crab study.

“Some really special things are happening here, and we want to understand more about that. What else is happening on the ground? What else do these wolves have to teach us? And so that’s a focus for the next decades as we explore more about wolves here,” Artelle said.

“This is really just the tip of the iceberg.”"
