Next up in our demo series: Jupiter! 🐾
Like Brindle's video, I've sped up the nail trim portion, but the timer shows this trim took about 2 minutes to complete.
In the sped-up section, I chat a bit more about positioning techniques and you'll see one of our favourites in action: butts in corners! This simple setup helps prevent our kiddos from spinning around on us and allows us to work safely and efficiently. While it's usually just a cozy cuddle in the corner, it often helps us get the trim done a little faster and with less stress for everyone involved.
As always, every pet is different, and we tailor our approach to what makes them most comfortable.
Questions? Concerns? We're always happy to chat!
Stay tuned for our next patient: Sweet Lady ❤️

One question we get fairly often is:

"Why don't you offer full grooming?"

The answer is actually quite simple: we know our lane, and we're proud of it.

Recently, we spent some time looking at the mobile pet care options available in our area. What we found was that Tails to Toes fills a very unique space in the industry.

Maddie and Bridget are both Animal Health Technologists with years of hands-on veterinary experience. Our backgrounds are rooted in clinical medicine, patient handling, fear reduction, and the day-to-day care of pets in a veterinary setting.

That experience is exactly why we focus on services such as nail trims, ear cleanings, gland care, mat removal, sanitary shaves, and other technician-style appointments.

Could we offer full grooming? Maybe.

But the reality is that there are incredibly talented groomers who have dedicated their careers to mastering that craft. We have tremendous respect for what they do.

At Tails to Toes, our goal has never been to be everything to everyone. Our goal is to provide high-quality, in-home care that draws on our veterinary education and experience, while staying within the scope of what we do best.

We believe pets deserve professionals who know their strengths, continue learning, and aren't afraid to refer to other experts when appropriate. That's why we happily recommend groomers when grooming services are needed, just as we hope pet owners recognize the value of seeking Animal Health Technologists for the services we specialize in.

We're proud to be veterinary professionals first, and we're grateful for the trust you've placed in us and your pets. ❤️🐾

Interested in learning more? Have a senior pet, a nervous pet, a special-needs pet, or a friend who could benefit from in-home Animal Health Technologist care? Reach out today — we'd love to chat about how we can help!

Did you know Dan (my new husband!) and I met at a company called Waste Management? You know, the green dumpster company. I was a summer student labourer, and he was a mechanic.

Why am I sharing this, you ask?

Because one day while doom scrolling, I came across an ad for a company called Wag Management. Naturally, I was immediately entertained and intrigued by the familiar branding.

After a little investigating, I learned they provide weekly pet waste pickup services — and even better, they service us here in little ol’ Spruce Grove!

With five dogs, two full-time jobs, and Tails to Toes keeping us busy, cleaning up the yard is one of those chores that always seems to fall to the bottom of the list. It was something we were more than happy to outsource.

Owen has been fantastic to work with. He sends a text when he’s on his way and another when the job is done, so we can make sure there are no canine escape artists making a break for it. My favourite part? He sends a photo showing the gate securely closed after each visit, which means no second-guessing or running outside to check ourselves.

We genuinely love the service we’ve received, and supporting local businesses is something that’s important to us. If you’re looking to reclaim a little time in your week and avoid playing “find the landmine” in your backyard, we can’t recommend Owen and WAG Management enough!

Locally owned dog waste removal service serving Spruce Grove & Stony Plain.

Spring cleanups, weekly service and one-time yard cleanups available.

One of the most common questions we get is, "What does a nail trim appointment actually look like?"

So we thought we'd show you!

Every pet is different, and every appointment is tailored to their comfort level. Some pets are happy to sit for a trim, while others need a little extra time, patience, treats, and encouragement. Our goal is never speed — it's creating a positive experience while keeping those nails healthy and comfortable.

Brindle volunteered as tribute for today's demonstration. ❤️

Quick disclaimer: Brindle's trim took roughly 3.5 minutes in real life, but we've sped that portion of the video up a bit so you don't have to watch me awkwardly contort myself around a dog for quite that long. 😂 The trim itself wasn't rushed — just the video!

Over the next week or so, we'll be sharing videos of our other dogs getting their nails done as well. Each of them has different needs, personalities, and comfort levels, so we're excited to showcase the flexibility of our approach and how we tailor each appointment to the individual pet in front of us.

Have questions about nail trims or wondering if your pet might be a good fit for a mobile appointment? Send us a message!

A little while ago, we sent out an email to our clients sharing some exciting updates about Tails to Toes and where we’d love to see the business grow. One of those goals was being a little more present on social media and letting you all get to know the humans behind the nail trims, ear cleanings, and pet cuddles. 💕

Well, our first order in support of that goal just arrived!

Look at our pretty new toys! We now have a ring light, a shutter remote, and a personal mic (in pink, of course 💅🏻).

We’re definitely learning as we go, but we’re excited to start sharing more of the real, behind-the-scenes moments that make up Tails to Toes. The happy dances after a tough nail trim, the coffee-fueled admin days, the pet kisses, the chaos, the laughter, and everything in between.

Thank you for supporting our little dream and allowing us to do what we love every day. We can’t wait to bring you along with us. 🐾🤍

Hello, friends!

To follow our last exciting announcement, we have yet another one… Tails to Toes is walking down the aisle! 🤍✨

That’s right — our very own Maddie is finally getting married! The big day is on the 29th, and between all the last-minute wedding fun, final to-do lists, and trying not to forget the rings, we’ll be closing up shop a few days early to prepare for the big day!

Any messages received prior to this post will be answered this evening. Any messages received afterwards will not receive a response until June 2nd.

Thank you all so much for your patience, kindness, and support while we celebrate such an exciting chapter. We can’t wait to be back soon!

Hello, friends! 🤍

We know we’ve been a little quiet over here lately, but trust us when we say it’s because Tails to Toes has been BUSY in the best way possible. In just over a year, this little dream of ours has grown more than we ever imagined, and we’re so incredibly grateful for every single one of you who has trusted us with your babies along the way.

Because of that growth, we’re SO excited to officially welcome a new member to the Tails family… Bridget! 🎉

Many of you may have already met her at appointments, and if you have, you already know how amazing she is. Bridget is also a technologist, and one of my best friends (we're even in each other's wedding parties)! She has been licensed for about 6 months, and she has nearly 5 years of experience in the veterinary industry. She brings so much patience, knowledge, compassion, and calm energy to every pet she works with.

Bridgets family includes:
🐾 Two sassy dachshunds
🐾 A sweet senior kitty and a three-legged kitty named Isosceles… (get it? 😂)
🐾 A wonderful fiancé who is also involved in the community!

Bridget will be leading appointments in Sherwood Park and surrounding areas as our Sherwood Park Team Lead! ✨

Watching Tails grow from just me into an actual team has been surreal, and I truly couldn’t have picked a better person to grow alongside.

If Bridget has already cared for your crew, feel free to leave her some love in the comments below! ⬇️

Interested in booking with us? Fill out our intake form and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can! Thank you all for continuing to support this little business of ours. 🤍

Kennel cough is on the rise... here's what you need to know.

Kennel cough (infectious tracheobronchitis) is a highly contagious respiratory illness that spreads quickly anywhere dogs socialize — daycare, boarding, grooming salons, training classes, dog parks, even vet waiting rooms.

✅ Common Signs & Symptoms

A dry, honking cough (often sounds like a goose honk)
Gagging or retching, especially after coughing
Sneezing and runny nose
Mild lethargy
Reduced appetite (sometimes)
Watery eyes

Most dogs still act fairly normal, but the cough can be persistent and annoying — and it can last 1–3+ weeks.

🦠 How Kennel Cough Spreads

Kennel cough is spread through:
Coughing / sneezing droplets in the air
Direct nose-to-nose contact

Shared items like:
-Water bowls
-Toys
-Leashes
-Kennels/Crates
-Grooming tools

🚨 Even dogs that “seem fine” can spread it while incubating or recovering.

What You Can Do

Take your dog to the vet for the Bordetella vaccine for kennel cough, if they're not already vaccinated.

If you suspect kennel cough:
✅ Isolate your dog from other dogs immediately
✅ Rest & hydration are key
✅ Use a harness instead of a collar to avoid irritating the throat
✅ Keep them in a calm environment (avoid heavy exercise)

📌 Call your vet ASAP if your dog has:

Trouble breathing
Fever
Loss of appetite
Thick/yellow/green discharge
Lethargy that seems more than mild
Cough lasting more than a couple of weeks
Any symptoms in a puppy, senior, or immunocompromised dog

Kennel cough is usually treatable, but it can develop into pneumonia in higher-risk dogs — so don’t ignore worsening symptoms.

✨ A Small Tails to Toes Update ✨
Over the past while, Tails to Toes has been busier than ever, and I am incredibly grateful for the trust, support, and kindness you’ve shown me 💛
To make sure I can continue providing the same level of care, attention, and reliability to my current clients, I’ll be moving into a soft pause on taking on new clients. New inquiries will still be considered on a case-by-case basis, allowing me to thoughtfully manage my schedule and availability.
Because of this, I won’t be posting my opening dates publicly as I normally do. If you’re hoping to book or inquire, please fill out the Google Form linked in my bio, and I’ll respond as soon as I’m able.
To my current clients — thank you for putting me in this position. Your ongoing support truly means everything to me, and I will always do my very best to accommodate everyone and maintain the quality of care your pets deserve 🐶🐱💛
Thank you so much for your understanding and kindness as Tails to Toes continues to grow.
