✨Some new faces here at QVC!✨

We are very happy to welcome three students to QVC for the summer. Two are new faces, and one is returning. From left to right:

Tristen - a vet tech student in between her first and second year of school;

Karissa - a vet student in between her second and third year of school;

Julia - a returning student that is currently enrolled in her undergrad to prepare for her application to vet school

These ladies are very excited to be here for the summer. They will learn new skills and get an immersive summer work experience that will put them ahead of things when they return to school. You will see them around the clinic taking in appointments, assisting the veterinarians as needed and out in the field assisting with large animal calls.

Please welcome Tristen, Karissa and Julia to the QVC team ☀️🐾

It’s National Vet Assistant Week!!

At QVC we are very lucky to have five incredibly talented vet assistants - they’re truly at the middle of everything we do here at the clinic ❤️🐾

Whether they’re helping wrangle fractious cats, patiently helping take the ✨perfect✨ radiographs for our veterinarians, keeping appointments running smoothly or cleaning up horse p**p the size of a small child in the large animal ward - these ladies do it with a smile! Vet Assistants are the unsung heroes of veterinary medicine and at QVC we appreciate them dearly.

Jade, Emma, Christina, Christina and Marita - THANK YOU for everything you guys do every single day. Your hard work and positivity does not go unnoticed!! ❤️❤️❤️

🐾✨To our current clients, future clients and the Quesnel & surrounding area✨🐾

We are experiencing a significant increase in calls, emails and new client requests in addition to our already exceptionally high call volume. If you have left a voicemail or sent an email about a non urgent request and haven’t heard back from a member of our team after a few business days, please do not hesitate to reach out again.

💥At this time, we are no longer accepting new clients from out of town where there are local veterinary services available. We will still continue to see our existing, established out of town clients.💥 We are still accepting new patients from the Quesnel area.

We are currently booking non-urgent appointments three weeks in advance and are doing everything that we can to accommodate more urgent and same day cases in a timely fashion.

We thank you in advance for your patience, kindness and understanding with our staff as we are all doing the best we can for you and your pets. 😊🐾

🌟🐾Quesnel Veterinary Clinic is looking to welcome a Registered Veterinary Technologist to our team!🐾🌟

QVC is a rapidly growing mixed animal general practice that has served Quesnel for over 50 years. We currently are a team of 15+ including five veterinarians, two RVTs and an experienced group of support staff. We are currently open six days/week and offer after hours urgent care to our clients.

Quesnel is a city of approximately 10,000 people, with an additional 13,000 that live outside city limits within the Cariboo Regional District. Quesnel is located in the Cariboo-Central interior of British Columbia, in between Prince George and Williams Lake. Quesnel boasts a variety of activities to do within the community, regardless of the season. The city slogan of “It’s in our Nature” is fitting considering all of the beautiful lakes, rivers and trails that there are to explore. 🌲☀️

At Quesnel Veterinary Clinic, we utilize our RVTs to their full potential. We want you to be able to use all of the skills that you learned in your years of tech school. Our RVTs perform a variety of duties including sample collection, IV catheter placement, assisting with dental COHATs (radiographs, nerve blocks, scaling/polishing), inducing and monitoring anesthesia, surgical prep, caring for hospitalized patients, assisting in surgical procedures, venipuncture, taking radiographs, and laboratory work. QVC is fully equipped with DR and CR dental radiograph imagery, digital skeletal radiograph imagery, a full in house laboratory, full ultrasound capabilities (echocardiogram, abdominal, equine performance), electro-cautery, an equine respiratory scope, an equine gastroscope, and ProStride. We are continually investing in the newest technology for veterinary medicine. Our RVTs are also part of a rotating call schedule alongside the DVMs to support our patients with after hours urgent care. 🏥🩺

The successful candidate:

-Will be a graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program
-Will be in good standing and an active member with the BCVTA (or soon to be - new grads encouraged to apply!)
-Works well independently and as a part of a team
-Thrives in a fast paced environment
-Has a positive attitude

At QVC we encourage learning and professional development. New grad RVTs are welcomed to apply, and are supported. Our new grads are mentored one on one by another RVT while developing their skills.

After a three month probationary period, the successful candidate will be eligible for benefits including BCVTA dues paid, staff discounts, health benefits and CE allowance.

Interested applicants please apply in person or via email to: [email protected]

Today’s QVC staff feature is ✨Christina✨ - one of our rockstar vet assistants.

Christina joined us this past fall and has been a fabulous addition to our team! Her kindness, positive outlook and gentle demeanour helps keep things here upbeat even on the wildest of days. The kindness she shows our patients as well as our clients is one of our favourite things about her. A true animal lover to her core, Christina comes to us with significant experience in small animal handling from her previous career as a certified groomer.

In her free time, Christina enjoys spending time with her dogs, her family and outdoor hobbies including fishing and camping.

Thank you for everything you do, Christina! QVC is lucky to have you. 💛

✨Behind the scenes✨at QVC **GRAPHIC** photo below!

Although this technically happened off site at a local producers ranch, we still wanted to share as we are in the midst of calving season. The two biggest cattle 'emergencies' that we deal with at this time of year are dystocia and uterine prolapse.

Dystocia means 'difficult birth' which typically can have a few different reasons for occurring, including a poorly positioned calf, a very large calf or a uterine torsion. A dystocia usually requires veterinary intervention if the producer has been unsuccessful at aiding the cow/heifer through the birth.

Uterine prolapse (which we have pictured here) is a life threatening emergency for the dam. This usually occurs immediately after calving, also for a variety of reasons, including a difficult pull or a lot of straining from the dam during the birth. This is something that needs to be corrected ASAP as there is high risk of death for the dam due to the major arteries that are within the uterus. We NEVER trailer these cases in for care as it is high risk for the dam due to the uterus being moved around too much in the trailer. Our veterinarians go directly to the farm to treat uterine prolapses.

This is #57 - she had a calf and shortly after had a very large uterine prolapse. Dr. Emily Wilson was able to get to the farm ASAP and replace the uterus. Picture #1 is what the producer found out in the field, and picture #2 is an hour or two after Dr. Wilson repaired the prolapse. We are happy to report that both dam and calf are doing great 🐮❤️

Stay tuned for the next ✨Behind the scenes✨ at QVC!
