Fun Fact: Because of their long, fluffy wool grows incredibly fast, Valais Blacknose sheep have to be shorn twice a year!

Final post of our annual shearing course! This year we were honored to bring in Paul Astin and Helen Astin of Tri State Shearing Supplies providing top level instruction to everyone in attendance.

The support for this year's event received was amazing, with students from across 5 provinces, The U.S.A and all the way from England! 🇨🇦🇺🇸🇬🇧

Our host E.H. Sheep and lamb provided excellent sheep to learn on, and with J&J catering the food and coffee snacks where amazing, big thankyou to everyone.
Our sponsor Nutrition Partners provided coffee for the all 6 days, keeping everyone focused and refreshed.

Graham Rannie kept both the wool and shearing sides going by floating wherever he was needed, and Chris Eddy of E.H. sheep and Lamb and South East chair of the Saskatchewan Sheep Development Board assisted continuously both with beginner shearers and animal handling.

Thankyou to everyone for the long days and awesome outcome.
We are all excited to start planning next year!

The final two days and second beginner course of our event!
Once again we were very honored to see attendees came from across Canada!

Following the advanced course the days
before, this event was extra special as all advanced attendees came back for the weekend, providing excellent instruction assistance to Paul Astin, while learning from him both as a coach and shearer.

Helen Astin continued to teach wool handling, and board skirting in a safe and productive manner.
This course was also special to us as two of the attendees were return students, who had both taken a courses previously and have since went on to shear their own flocks, and it was great to see how far they've came, while taking them to the next level in their shearing journey.
Graham Rannie (GRannie Rambouillets & Johnstone Farm Border Cheviots) once again returned, offering his expert advice on the shearing board, and the skirting table, all while somehow taking some amazing photos for us!

Photos from Day 3 and 4 last week (Advanced Course)

Shearers from 3 provinces across Canada 🇨🇦, North Dakota 🇺🇸 and all the way from England🇬🇧, got the opportunity to experience advanced training with Paul Astin. Over the two days he took their footwork, equipment and mindsets to a new level. All attendees were blown away at his clear but detailed explanations of positioning, settings and passion for the industry that is infectious.

While this great event took place Helen Astin continued to assist Paul Astin and coach students on wool handling and skirting in that more commercial environment.

First post of photos starting with the first beginer shearers class. Running for 6 days last week our 5th annual shearing school was a massive success!
With Paul and Helen Astin's exceptional instructions, we held two courses of beginner shearing with students from across Canada and an advanced course that included shearers from 3 provinces, the U.S.A 🇺🇸 and England 🇬🇧, plus wool handling training.
We were honored to host for their first official stop in Canada 🇨🇦.

A massive thankyou to everyone who helped make this event as special as it was, Graham Rannie ( GRannie Rambouillets & Johnstone Farm Border Cheviots ) for his help with wool, and shearing instruction, J&J catering and E.H. Lamb for hosting and providing amazing snacks and lunches, as well as a constant support.

And of course a huge thankyou to our sponsor, Nutrition Partners, for sponsoring all the coffee breaks throughout the week. Lastly thankyou to all who attended from near and far! Was an amazing batch of learners at many different levels, great to meet everyone, and to be a part of your shearing or wool journey. We are already starting to plan next year!
