"Over The Moon" Artistic Grooming By Sarah Pet Clips and Breed Standards ~ Member and Salon Details Certified with International Professional G All sizes, ages, and personalities. Some more than others.

Over the Moon is a full service dog grooming salon offering breed standard, pet clips, and creative styles. I use all natural products. Hydromassage and medicated baths are available. Toe nail clipping and grinding also available. I run my shop on two basic ideas. ‘Humanity before vanity’ and ‘quality above quantity'. Healthy skin and coat are very important aspects of your dogs general well being

over the years and grooming (whether at home or through the services of a professional) plays an intrinsic role in the maintenance of many breeds. Although I can do breed standard clips and offer a beautiful haircut, this is second to health, comfort, and well being. I strive to find a balance that will suit both you the owner and your beloved pet. It is more important to me that all dogs in my care feel safe and comfortable though. This is why it is completely 'open concept' with plenty of natural light and space. I strive for each and every one to feel as 'at ease' as is possible during all groom appointments. Please feel free to stop in and see the salon. There are information booklets available that outline our pricing and policies/procedures, and I am sometimes available to take a minute depending on the schedule that day. Luna (my 1 yr old Black Russian Terrier) is the official greeter ...so please dont feel surprised if she is standing behind the counter some days :)

Just a quick update for everyone who still follows this page(which I keep so that people can still access photos of their pets more than anything else!).

Myself (and Chad) will also be returning ALL of your calls and emails over the coming week! If you havent received a response by Sunday, please feel free to call and/or email again as it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of everyone. For quick reference you can contact me at: [email protected] and/or 705-749-LUNA(5862). Email does tend to be the easiest way for me to get back to everyone and to ensure I have.

I have been delayed in my return to grooming unfortunately. And I am still exploring options as to when and where I may be able to offer services again to those of you who would still like to bring your four legged family members to me for their 'spaw' days! I thought I had an arrangement in place before I closed my doors August 1st, but, unfortunately, this didnt transpire. For a variety of reasons. It is VERY important to me that not only can I offer my services to care for all of your dogs, but it is also of the utmost importance to me that I can do so in a manner that I feel is the best for them and for me!

As you can imagine this has been an extremely stressful and overwhelming transition for me, and I do not discount that it is the same for many of you and of 'my dogs'. It is most certainly not easy for me, nor do I not think daily of all of you.

As I have said in many posts, I am beyond grateful and appreciative for the past almost 10 years of love and support, as well as the love and support so many of you are still sending out to me.

I do hope that many of you have found temporary(or lasting) accommodations for your needs. I know there are many talented and caring groomers in this City who are able to care for you and more importantly, your dogs. I admittedly do take SOME 'comfort' in that.

I hope to be able to make another post in the coming days that will be more positive news. In the meantime, please know that I havent given up, havent stopped thinking of all of you, and that and I am DEEPLY appreciative for everyones understanding during this rather difficult period in time!

Much love from Luna, Taiyo, and I 💙💜💙

Unfortunately the original post I made 2 weeks ago did not post apparently. This was just brought to my attention. My auto replies are on my email thankfully, but I feel terrible the following information did not make it to this fb page as well.

Needless to say, as I said in a previous post, Over The Moon was, and is, officially closed as of July 31st.

Unfortunately, the lockdown imposed on me by the government made it impossible to continue business with the amount of overhead I was required to carry monthly.

As the saying goes.. 'even the best laid plans'..

After 8 years in this location, and 10 years grooming back in Peterborough, this was an EXTREMELY difficult decision for me to make. But I feel it was the right choice. Some of the best, and maybe even some of the worst, memories of my life were formed over the past years, and I wouldnt change any of them.

I am SO grateful to all of you who made the last 8 years possible. And as such, the memories I cherish so very much. It was a lot of hard work requiring everything I had, and then some. All of your support kept me going through the times I felt I couldnt(and there were a few). Even more so though, your dogs admittedly. So many of them I have loved and adored so much. DO love so much. The dogs I have groomed since puppies, the dogs I have been able to rehab, the dogs no one else would.. or could.. groom, the dogs who were scared or anxious, the difficult dogs.. so many dogs! All of them individuals and unique. Just as each of you are.

Sadly, despite all of the support, the trust, and the love, the lockdown left me with zero income for far too long, while my bills continued to accumulate. I look around our small city with sadness, as I know Im not the only one. So many small businesses, with owners who gave their all for so many years have decided its too much. Not because we dont love our customers, or dont care, but we dont have it in us to start all over again. My heart goes out to every place I pass by that is closed. I know Im not alone. I hope some of them are able to find some peace in knowing they arent either :(

I suppose life is a journey that is ever changing though. And things have changed drastically for me in the past months. I dont think that can ever be a negative. Unless we allow it to be. I intend to only take the positive as I move forward.

I do not have words to express properly my gratitude and love to all of you, and your dogs. You have made me feel trusted, cared for, and loved.. in ways unimaginable. And I tried very hard to make sure that all of your dogs felt that way too. Somehow, some way, I mostly succeeded and I locked my doors for the last time on
July 31st feeling that overwhelmingly in my heart.. I will never be able to properly describe the emotion within me when I turned that key.. I will hold it close forever though.

For now, I have decided to take the month of August off to regenerate and to decide on which fork in the river to travel next. I fully intend to continue to groom in some capacity
though, and I hope to see many of you (the four legged 'yous' mainly I must admit) whenever that time comes.

Some will definitely need grooming before my return. Though I did try very hard to get to everyone and to be clear about my intentions, I understand that some were missed, or that some didnt realize I wouldnt be returning right away. My apologies to each of you. Its been a very overwhelming few months.

There are MANY grooming salons in the city to choose from and it is impossible for me to recommend any one in particular. The veterinarian (Dr. Sandra Smith) at Brealey Drive Animal Clinic has decided to take the plunge and lease my old space as of August 1st in order to offer grooming services there still though. It will be called Brealey Drive Animal Spa. For some of you this will be convenient, and your dogs can continue to visit the same space they have always known for their grooming needs.

Wherever you decide to go, ask lots of questions, make your wants/needs and desires known. Bring pictures, describe your dogs likes and dislikes. Dont feel you are being too demanding or too needy. Feel free to email me, or have your new groomer do so if you would like so I can give you a brief overview of your dogs
personality and cut.

It is bittersweet for me to make this post I must admit. I am filled with emotion. Good and bad. I worked so hard to open a space that was inviting and nurturing and most of all, safe. And I worked even harder to improve on it, and to make sure that all 'my dogs' felt comfortable there. It took a lot from me all these years physically, emotionally, and mentally. More than most will ever know or understand. But it gave me a lot also. YOU all gave me a lot.

I will never forget you, your dogs, or the huge success Over The Moon enjoyed for the years it was open.

Sadly, its now time to let the river carry me onward. Floating downstream will be easier than swimming against the current Im sure. Even if there are a few choppy areas to swim through.

Over the coming weeks I will be making another huge decision about when and where I will groom. For now I am in a momentary 'time out'. Luna Taiyo and I are still 'Over The Moon' though. and I will always be SO very grateful to each of you for giving that to us.

~with SO MUCH love and gratitude,

~*~Sarah~*~

After a tremendous amount of searching within my heart and my soul and my mind over the past couple of months I have made the VERY difficult decision to not renew the lease for Over The Moon come July. Please do NOT panic. I am currently in the process of making contingency plans for everyone who has been so supportive and kind and dedicated over the past 8 plus years. I will make an updated post this weekend that includes more detail about the aforementioned plans I am trying to put into place for all of you and for myself. Some of it is actually rather exciting! I just want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone for the time being. It has been a long journey filled with difficulty, sweat, tears, and LOVE. I am eternally grateful to all of you for making Over The Moon such a huge success. Stay tuned for an updated post this weekend

Thank you again to everyone for your continued patience! Its been a long tedious process getting back to everyone to book appointments. Not to mention the grooming!! This is also taking longer than normal as there is a lot of extra time required for each dog, not to mention the extra time required for pick up and drop off, sanitation, etc.. If you have called or emailed you are definitely on my list and should receive a call this weekend. As Ive said before I am absolutely NOT taking new clients at this time, but I do hope to be able to do so in the very near future. My first priority is those with dogs who are already patrons of Over The Moon. And there are a lot of you! I am through those who were prebooked and cancelled, now moving on to those who are seasonal, and those who will be soon coming due again. This means there will still be a bit of a wait for some unfortunately. At the best of times I am usually booking out a week or two, so this shouldnt be too surprising for those who dont prebook. Needless to say, I am getting there.. one VERY hairy dog at a time. PLEASE continue to brush your dog in the meantime. This will ensure your dog is less prone to being hot, removes undercoat that can foster hotspots, and overall makes them feel better! As you know, my 2 fur kids are kept in full coats year round. They are not hotter than they would be if they were shaved. A dogs coat is truly a magical thing when it comes to regulating body temperature in all seasons. I do expend energy to keep them mat and undercoat free though. I look forward to seeing all of you over the coming weeks! We will get there

20/05/2020

A quick post on the current changes for appointments :) Please refer to my previous post also about making an appointment right now during this VERY busy and demanding time,

Drop off:

Please be on time. It is very important I am able to stay on schedule now more than ever. Please wait until I come out to get your dog.

The salon will be locked and no one allowed inside yet. This makes it easier to keep everyone apart and cuts down on the need to sanitize every surface in the reception area after each person.

Please make sure your dog is on a leash. I will not be taking them from your arms. Once inside I will remove your pets leash and collar and wipe it down with disinfectant.

Your dog will then go directly into the tub for their bath. I will not be doing any pre work. Although we thus far do not believe pets can carry the virus on them.. better safe than sorry.

Grooming

As I said above, I will not be doing prework and all dogs will go directly into the bath. I will also NOT be doing ANY dematting at this time. Dematting is time consuming and strenuous at the best of times, and I simply do not have the extra time or energy to do so now. Some of you may find your dog in a shorter clip as such. Its hair. It grows back. I will do my very best though to ensure they are all as close to their regular clips and styles as possible!

Pick Up.

Same as Drop Off. Please be on time and wait until I bring your dog outside. Again.. these times will be staggered so there is no contact between people.

Payment.

Please bring cash int he exact amount in a baggie or envelope. I am also taking etransfers.

Times:

I am booking dogs 30 mins apart so there is no overlap between people Please be on time for drop off and pick up. It is imperative more than ever that people are not running late. I am always on a very strict schedule, but right now it can not be deviated from. If you are early please wait. Please do not come and peek in my windows or tap on the glass or knock on the door. This is dangerous to dogs being worked on and upsetting to others in the salon. Including your own.

Much thanks to everyone ahead of time. I will get to all of your dogs.. one by one.. even though it may take a little while longer than we all would like

19/05/2020

A quick update with another to follow later today. I will absolutely NOT be accepting any new clients at this time.

As you can imagine, after 6 weeks closed, I am backlogged beyond belief. I ask that everyone continue to be patient as I work through my list.

Please do NOT send multiple emails and phone calls. I have an ever growing list of appointments to book and it will be much easier for me to keep track if I do not have doubles to tend to. I guarantee you are all on my radar and everyone will have a spot over the coming weeks.

Most of all I ask that you absolutely refrain from coming to the salon. The doors will be locked and I will not be coming outside to speak with people in person. Having people knock on my door and windows is intolerable at the best of times due to the danger it presents to the dogs in my care. Not to mention the stress it causes for many of them. Now it is more important than ever though as I have less free seconds than ever before due to the new requirements and protocols.

Please keep in mind that everyone is overdue, but some are now at 12 weeks or more since their last haircut. These dogs are my priority. I am filling spots starting with those who were prebooked and had their appointments canceled at the end of March. It is only fair that I book in this manner.

Some who are in DIRE need will also be moved ahead slightly. This means those who are elderly and those with medical/health issues whose day to day well being will be seriously affected by overgrowth or lack of medicated baths, etc.. I know which of 'my dogs' are in absolute need of course as I have spent countless hours tending to them over many years now.

I understand that some are used to their dogs being groomed every 4-6 weeks, but that does not mean that they are suffering due to having to wait longer. In normal times I very much so appreciate that many of you book so frequently and fully understand why. After all I bath my own 2 every two weeks. During this current situation though it is simply not feasible and you will need to wait a little longer than normal.

Later on tonight I will make a post that outlines the specific procedure for dropping off and picking up your dog. Please keep in mind that this is how I must do things in order to adhere to government policy and to move everyone through as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Last but not least.. I am only one person.. with a VERY large clientele base.. I can only groom so much and need to ensure that I do not burn out or injure myself during this very difficult time. I will get to everyone over the coming weeks.. but its going to take a great deal of effort as well as boatloads of patience from you and from me

Ontario to ease COVID-19 restrictions on retail, construction | CBC News

YAY! After SO MUCH effort it looks like we will be on the official list!!! I do not have the words to express how happy I am about this, Its been a very long and stressful 6 weeks. Writing letters, sending emails, fb messages, making phone calls. To MPPs the Premiers office, the Medical Officer, the local city council, public health, on and on.. Thank you to everyone who has been SO patient. And to those of you have went out of your way to help.. my gratitude runs deeper than you can imagine

Ontario is set to announce it will lift restrictions on construction work and will loosen restrictions on retail shops outside of malls as part of its COVID-19 reopening plan, CBC News has learned. But the exact date when the restrictions will be lifted is not known.

25/03/2020

As of today I will be closing. I have emailed Doug Fords office, Christine Elliots office, and Dave Smiths office hoping to get clarification. Hopefully we are deemed essential, especially given the strict social distancing protocols we have in place. I will make an updated post later today when I have received a response. Stay well everyone

Obituary of Marie Robinson | Community Alternative Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd.

Wow! Im not sure Im going to be able to figure this out its been so long and theyve added SO MUCH! It took me 20 mins just to figure out how to make a post! The past year has been filled with grief for myself and for so many who entrust their four legged souls to me. One after another, no letting up. I couldnt bring myself to face it publicly. I was out of breath and out of words. BUT, today, in keeping with International Womens Day (and my love to the good men out there who stand by our sides), I am making my first post in honour of a woman that encouraged and inspired me. That supported and enriched me. A woman that would sometimes talk to me in her best 'mommy voice', as she liked to say. And when she did I listened. Before I move ahead with posts about all of the dogs I have lost this year and a half.. YOUR dogs

At this point I feel a 'breather' is necessary. It took me a while to bring myself to post about these 3 particular souls, and their crossing over the proverbial 'bridge'. The next 2 are even more difficult for me, as they are Lunas family by birth, and therefore my family also. It seems impossible for it to feel worse, or for me to be lost for words, but it is so. I can only say to all those who come to Over the Moon, or those who dont, but love their dogs just the same. Never miss a moment to touch them, to talk to them, to love them... even half as much as they love you. They are not here with us long enough, regardless of their age, and I am reminded of that far too often. I know how my heart aches painfully and deeply for each one who passes, and I can only begin to imagine the loss their parents/owners/2 legged friends feel. There is no love comparable to the love of a dog.. not in my opinion anyway

These seem to get tougher as I go this. Penny is no exception. In many ways Penny felt like one of my own. I not only groomed this sweet girl for a long time, I also had her stay with us an awful lot.
Penny started coming to me when I was teaching her cousin Kate to groom. No groomer would go anywhere near Penny without a muzzle back then and I can recall numerous times Kate observing with what appeared to be terror as I would begin to work on her on my table. When we started our relationship I would indeed have to muzzle her for certain parts of her groom and am sure there was a great many reasons as to why that was, not the least of which being that Penny was highly intelligent and extremely brave. If faced with 'fight or flight' there was no way Penny would tuck tail and run. So, for her safety, and my own, we would do the first half
of her groom muzzle free, and then quickly place the muzzle on for those parts she knew from past experience could be uncomfortable if not done skillfully. As time progressed and Penny trusted me more and more the use of the muzzle became less and less. Eventually we groomed with no muzzle at all. I always knew to be careful for her front feet though regardless and we would talk to one another the entire time we were working on them.
She would hand me one foot telling me how careful I needed to be and how much she didnt like it and really didnt want it done at all and I would take the paw and explain to her that I knew how much it 'sucked' and not to worry as I would be as careful as can be. I wish with all of me that I could have done so much more for Penny. I feel I let her down because I know how much she loved and trusted me and Luna. When I first got Taiyo and Penny was coming for the weekend I had some fairly grave concerns about how she would take this happy busy little bundle of furry joy, and to my chagrin she was amazing with him. She never once growled at him or displayed any aggression toward him at all. And that was an enormous relief as Penny was our most frequent guest for sleep overs. Known to assert herself with other dogs and people, never did she do this while in mine and Lunas care. I like to think shes running free and happy with her guard down now. The look on her face the same as the time that I had Luna, her sister Maggie, and Penny all come with me for an extended sleep over and we went to the park for a walk/run. My nephew Tyler who was about 9 had Pennys lead, and I will always see the sheer joy on her face as she tried so hard to keep up with the two black russians she considered her friends. Ears flying and going as fast as she could, but not near fast enough to keep up completely. Sigh. Im sorry Penny. I love you and I will truly miss you more than any words could ever express and Im sure your parents feel the same

Hello , I hope this message finds you safe and well. I have been working for some time to get puppy mills in Canada banned ( issues such as- strengthening the animal welfare section of the criminal code, making it illegal to advertise puppies not coming from registered breeders for sale on social media type platforms, having a register of bone fide breeders who are inspected regularly and making sure that the criminal code is enforced) LIberal MP Nathaniel Erskine Smith has sponsored my government e petition, and NDP MP Laurel Collins has agreed to help me also. Would you be willing to sign and forward my petition to anyone you think might sign. ( if you have a mailing list it would be fantastic if you could send it round the list) Thanks Margaret McCullough 159 Joseph St Victoria V8S 3H6

Yeah, you are going to be able to open next week. ( I hope )
Her nails really need attention. Thank you for making her more comfortable with showering, she is now lifting her own paws to get clean! 705-745-9189. I realize she is not a priority but even if you could clip her nails to make the quick recede until her grooming appointment it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Elly

The Worst Laundry Detergent Brands with Ingredients Linked to Allergies and Cancer

Laundry detergent can be a lot like a rich, decadent dessert. You can smell it from down the street and it’s baked to absolute perfection. But, deep down inside, you know that those refined ingredients and cups of sugar can have both short-and-long-term effects on your health. In the same way, just because laundry detergent can smell lemony fresh and make your clothes snow-white clean, does not mean they are necessarily safe.

People – yourself included – want safe, effective, cost-efficient ways to clean their clothes. Yet the very laundry detergent brands that promise all those things are the same ones that pose both environmental and health risks. Chemicals in laundry detergent can affect you directly, causing skin reactions like contact dermatitis, or indirectly through drinking water and chemicals that aren’t quick to degrade.

The Worst Ingredients Found in Laundry Detergent

In the past, we have said that if you can’t pronounce the ingredients, don’t buy the product. Well, these are some of those ingredients. By no means is this an exhaustive list, however, if you see any of these chemicals staring back at you from the laundry detergent label, you may want to stay away from it after reading this…Advertisement

1) Nonylphenols and Nonylphenol Ethoxylates
Also referred to as NE/NPEs, manufacturers use these detergent-like chemicals in latex paints and lawn care and automotive products. What’s worse, nonylphenols and nonylphenol ethoxylates also exist in personal hygiene products and consumer laundry detergents. According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), there is evidence that NPEs are linked to cancer, DNA damage, skin allergies and irritation, asthma and respiratory problems, and hormone disruption. (1,2)

“NP has been detected in human breast milk, blood, and urine and is associated with reproductive and developmental effects in rodents,” says the Environmental Protection Agency. (1)

2) 1,4-Dioxane
This toxin is a known (possible human) carcinogen, yet it remains one of the most widespread chemicals in personal hygiene products and laundry detergent. 1,4-dioxane is actually created in a process – ironically – that is supposed to reduce skin irritation risk in petroleum-based ingredients. Although the EWG describes its cause for concern about cancer as moderate, high concerns include skin, eye, or lung irritation and non-reproductive organ toxicity. (3)

“Though 1,4-dioxane can easily be removed from products before they are sold, its widespread presence in products indicates that many manufacturers fail to take this simple step.”

In addition to hiding in laundry detergent and dishwashing soap, EWG found the carcinogen in the drinking water supplies of almost 90 million Americans’ in September 2017. (4) This helps put into perspective just how widespread 1,4-dioxane is and that it’s not just in store-bought products, but the water we use every day.

3) Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)

You can find one or both of these ingredients in numerous shampoos and dishwashing soaps, and many laundry detergent brands. Manufacturers mainly use it as a bubbling or foaming agent, but also as a detergent. Depending on the manufacturing processes, sodium laureth sulfate can be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane and another human carcinogen called ethylene oxide. (5)

When these chemicals are washed down the drains and run through pipes, they do not easily degrade and thus pose an environmental risk that affects both animals and humans. The longer these chemicals remain, the more likely people are to have an increased risk of skin, eye, or respiratory irritation and nervous system problems. (5,6)

4) Artificial Fragrances
Laundry detergent is not the only thing in which you’ll find fragrances. As we mentioned above, fragrance is present in countless household cleaners, personal care products, and cosmetics. Technically, it’s not even a single ingredient and can contain hundreds or thousands of chemicals that are mixed to create a given fragrance. In fact, according to the International Fragrance Association, “3,999 materials have been reported as used in fragrance compounds.” (7)Advertisement

Studies have revealed that exposure to fragrances can have negative side effects, according to EWG. Described as a moderately high hazard, the health concerns of fragrance can include respiratory distress, dermatitis, and red, itchy, or watery eyes, as well as potential effects on the reproductive system. (8,15)

Almost All Laundry Detergent Brands Are a Cause for Concern

High-efficiency (HE) laundry detergent refers to products that boast their stain-removing or fabric-softening capabilities. Many people use HE detergents because they can be cost-efficient but, unfortunately, that doesn’t mean they are safe. EWG reviewed 269 high-efficiency laundry detergents and found that over 60 percent couldn’t score above a D. Believe it or not, 36 percent of them received a failing F. (9)

How about general-purpose (GP) laundry detergents? When EWG reviewed 434 GP laundry detergents, more than 65 percent of scored a D or worse, with 37.6 percent getting an F. (10) It’s important to recognize that this “laundry list” is not exhaustive, but still emphasizes how poor and arguably unsafe many of these popular laundry detergents are. That said, there are brands that have multiple products, some of which received A-grades while others received poorer ones. So, don’t write off a brand right away – make sure you check the grades of their individual laundry detergents because you could have one of the safe ones.Advertisement
